Customers are saying

Customers have good things to say about the fun gameplay, witty dialogue, and humorous story in The Outer Worlds. Many also appreciate the game's open world and the opportunity for exploration. While some players noted minor technical issues and occasional long loading times, these concerns appear to be relatively infrequent. Overall, the positive feedback on the core gameplay mechanics and narrative outweighs the negative comments.

I heard many great things about this game. I am a big fan of Fallout games and after finishing Fallout 4, I was craving for more and this was just what I needed.

Ive only barely started the game, but its amazing. This RPG seems endless where you can decided yourself in how to want yourself to be perceived by the outside world. A great amount of play time people will enjoy.

It's a bit ugly, the planets aren't that interesting, not a lot to do that's fun mission wise. It's decent but not that great. But it's best played on ps4, load times are slightly better on ps5.

Bethesda game studios can learn a thing or 2 from the original creators of the fallout series this is a true role playing game with roleplaying elements. A brand new IP that has a lot of potential for expansion

This game is the spiritual successor to fallout NV. If you like fallout games you should get this. It’s like a more colorful and humorous version of a fallout game. It’s just fun

At time of review I was around 10-13 hours into the game. I will not play the game any further. Story/World: Pros: Some of the characters might have turned out to be some of my favorite in video games if I played to the end of the game. Parvati had an impact on me (that is all I will say due to spoilers, but thank you, Obsidian). The dialogue is pretty good(and lots of choices) and humorous. Like the concept of corporation vs. the little man. Cons: I personally have never been a fan of 50's future deco/aesthetic. It's Fallout in space in many ways, and sometimes the dialogue can feel like it was ripped right out of Fallout 4. Environments kinda of look "meh" to me. Gameplay/Combat: Pros: Plenty of weapons to choose from in the time I played. Weapon damage tied to different skills. Your character may gain flaws(if you so choose), which can be humorous and ingenious, but gain a perk. Plenty of options for armor and weapons within the first few hours, that seemed like I started seeing the same things though by the time I quit, so not sure if the game will keep throwing new items at you as you progress. There is an option to upgrade gear, so if there is one you like the aesthetic of you may not have to sacrifice it for the sake of having better armor. Neutral: You can change your party members gear and choose what perks they gain(I can take it or leave it in games usually). Cons: This was main thing that killed the game for me, I absolutely hated combat. No matter how much tweaking I did in the options menu, my movement always felt off, the weapons never felt like there was no weight to them. The only time I can remember the controller vibrate was with one weapon. Balance in combat was lacking. I changed between Normal and Hard and could not tell the difference. Jumping between playing Apex Legends and this was jarring, and really emphasized the issues with combat(Yes, I understand they are different genres, and that can effect combat). The time dilation is their equivalent of VATS from Fallout, and Fallout does it so much better. Too many stats on the screen. I would get stuck on objects in the environment, rocks mostly. Menu/User Interface: Pros: Mostly intuitive. Cons: Besides combat, the menu also was a major issue for me. The writing of item descriptions is so tiny I was straining to read. The pop up box that brings up the item description blocks the view of other items near it, which frustrated me. Had to hold down X to break down for parts or use an item. I felt like I wasted a lot of time in the menu, and it was boring to look at.

I don’t have many hours of play in the game yet but what I’ve seen gives me nostalgic feelings of Fallout and Borderlands. If you’re a fan of either, I highly recommend this game as it seems to be a mix of the two so far.

The only reason this doesn't get five stars is the control scheme; there's three options, but no custom key choices (like switching R1 and R2, for example). For most people that probably won't be a problem, but it does make it difficult for me to adapt.

This game lives up to the hype. Feels like a true rpg. Play the game however you like. Freedom is very real in the outer worlds. Could be a bit longer for my tastes, but this game has so much replay value.

I really love this game. There is a main story line with plenty of quests, as well as side line quests. How you play the game and answer to others in the game decides the way your game progresses.

It's cool, nothing spectacular but it is slightly innovative with the story and it's fun to play every now and then to break away from more standard/mainstream games

I can imagine when we are able to travel to different worlds, it would look like this. Not my favorite color scheme, as everything to too brightly colored. But a well made game for these stay at home times we live in.

I had fun with this game. Very reminiscent of Fallout New Vegas l, which was by far the best Fallout game. Has great replay value with character design and abilities.

A strong effort from Obsidian. I wanted it to be a worthy successor to New Vegas, but it’s just not as deep. The characters are decent and the locales are great. It’s just that everything is spread out.

Finally. We are getting back to the roots of Fallout... IN SPACE. Atmospheric, animated, intense, dense, and so much fun. There's a reason why it's difficult to find copies of this game.
