    Good Wedge Dashcam

Overall, this is a good dashcam that has a compact, wedge design that allows it to be installed up behind the rearview mirror, out of sight of the driver. To me, not having anything else obstruct my view is a huge benefit. I also like that this has no screen. Other dashcams I've had use one and it's not helpful for watching video and it's clumsy using the buttons to navigate menus. I much prefer this units fast connection to the app on your smartphone to change settings and download video. There a few things I'm not a fan of, and while one is unique to my circumstance, the others are self inflicted by Thinkware. First is the power cord. It's 2025, we should not be forced to use the old cigarette lighter power source. It should be USB, and if you want to include the adapter for that older power outlet, go for it. Options are wonderful things. If you're going to force this kind of plug, at least make it smaller. Second knock is the rear camera cord. I installed this in a convertible and I just wanted a short cord to connect the 2 cameras and mount it facing backwards on the front window. All that's included is a very long and excessively thick wire. Even if I was running this to the rear of a vehicle, that cord is way to chunky to easily stuff behind panels. Third knock, the rear camera is unnecessarily large. There are much more compact designs for the rear cam. Overall, the picture quality is good and I like the form factor and app with no screen. Unless I can find a short cord that works online, I'll probably leave the rear facing cam in the box. It's a good dashcam, especially at the price point. Just be aware of the shortcomings, which are minor, not deal breakers. I would recommend.

Cameras came in perfect condition from my local carrier. Unboxing super simple and inside you will find the front and rear cameras along with cables to connect each component as well as mounting hardware to secure in place inside your vehicle. When looking for a dash camera a few things were important to me but the most important was ease of installation. I was slightly intimidated because I’ve never took apart plastic trims to install anything but this was not a worry as the tool to remove the panels works flawlessly and installation turned out to be a breeze so much so that I recommended this to my parents who still drive but aren’t exactly the most tech savvy humans living on earth. Download the app and usability matching the ease of the installation with options that can be stored to your preference. One of my favorite features is the continues recording meaning the camera will record while the vehicle is off which in turns means you will be protected when away from the car or at least have some video of whatever happened that you couldn’t see. Another great feature I thought was the quality of video. I noticed living in Arizona driving east in the AM the sun beats down on my windshield and I was worried that this would cause the video quality to be poor but I see everything perfectly and have no issues. I highly recommend this dash cam if you want all the features and easy installation/functionality.

Like the title says the THINKWARE ARC700 is such a great dash cam that I had to knock off two stars for NOT INCLUDING AN OBDII CABLE! This actually isnt my first THINKWARE dash cam, the ARC700 is an upgrade from my Q200 and I liked that one alot so I expected to really like the ARC700 too. The ARC700 is an upgrade with the 4K front camera and 2k rear camera, a difference from my previous 2K front and 1080 rear. Picture is crystal clear and captures a wide angle, I feel very good about the images/video I'll capture if I get into an accident. Connecting and using the app is very easy to do. There are more parking mode recording options that provide more security for when you're away from your vehicle, however this is dependant on your choice of power supply. I liked that the GPS is now built into the main camera body as opposed to it being a whole seperate part and cable like my Q200 did. Installation can be super easy or super hard, this all depends on your level of knowledge with cars and mechanic skills. I installed my Q200 and have done multiple installs of dash cams on company vehicles so I had no problem but if you aren't experienced you would do better paying for installation. Choosing the power supply is a very important choice too, in box you'll get a 12v cable and a hardwire cable. If you go with the 112v cable its simple to just plug into your 12v port, but you will not get any parking mode recording because those modes require constant power, and 12v ports only have power when the vehicle is on. If you hard wire that means connecting to the battery or fuse box directly, but this means getting access to those areas (which might not be easy and could require making access points in or under the dashboard) and using a volt tester to find the appropriate fuses (fuses that have the voltage the camera is designed for) to avoid burn out or drains, but this is the way to get constant powert for parking mode protections, this might be a challange for non mechanically experienced people. My biggest complaint with the ARC700 is the choice to not provide an OBDII power cable. My Q200 came with all three power cables and left it up to me to choose, which I ended up using OBDII to get constant power for parking modes access and it was easier than hard wiring. It cost me another $50 to get an OBDII cable online (that's pretty much what every site thats selling it online had it for including THINKWARE). The OBDII cable my Q200 was using is compatible with my ARC700 but I intend to reinstall the Q200 in another one of my vehicles so I would need another OBDII reagrdless. THINKWARE needs to just stop providing the hardwire power cable and do just 12v and OBDII. Overall, I liked the THINKWARE ARC700 the camera, but I dont love it like I was hoping I would. The video picture quality is impeccable and the hardware is high quality, but the decision to not include a certain power cable that other lower tier models included and which negatively narrows installation options is not an improvement and worth the 2 stars it lost. If you are willing to spend the extra bucks or have no problem hardwiring or are just gonna pay for professional installation, then you'll love this camera because it will capture everything in high detail and its good peace of mind when an accident happens. I'd absolutely recommend it but I would make sure this was all transparent before acquiring.

I have used THINKWARE dashcams in the past, and they have been solid, reliable, and have actually saved me in an accident by proving my non-liability. The ARC700 is a step up from the Q200 I was using prior, now this one records in 4k (at 30 fps) or you can also set it to record in 2k, or even 1080p if you wish and can adjust HDR settings via the app. However, the first unit that was sent to me was a dud, it constantly rebooted no matter the power source. Luckily, their support team sent a replacement when I sent the old one back. You can wire this with a 12v cig lighter, you can tap into your fuse box for continuous recording (this is the option I went with) or you can buy their OBD adapter as well. I don't like how they recommend to just wire directly into the fuse box, I think using fuse-taps are the way to go. After you have wired everything up, just launch the app, connect to the camera via bluetooth, it will initialize, and voila. One odd thing, is this particular dashcam does not come with the alignment lines like other models do to help you align the camera in the center and on the hood. Also, the app still leaves more to be desired. It just is... old feeling and clunky. Also, since these are 4k videos, transferring them to your phone is going to take a while. Luckily though, these have a 5Ghz wi-fi antenna so the speeds are at least a little faster than older dash cams which is needed for 4k video transfer. I put in a 256GB SD card instead since 4k video is larger and I don't want to have to be constantly formatting. Oh, and I LOVE the format button being easily accessible so you don't have to go into the app to format every time. Overall the quality is great, it is crisp, bright, and at night, you can make out license plates from at least 20 feet away. Parking mode works as intended and appreciate the battery cutoff settings so you can set it to stop if it falls below a certain voltage threshold to protect your battery. I would say, grab this if its on sale ever if you want a great entry level 4k camera that also has a rear camera that just happens to be in 2k (which is plenty for the rear)

Setting up: The setup was straightforward but the connection between my phone and the dash cam was not easy. After deleting and reinstalling the app I was able to connect the WiFi but it kept getting disconnected. I’m not sure if this issue will be fixed with a software update. Right now to view the videos on my phone I have to disconnect my phone from the Apple CarPlay and I will not be doing that because I’ll be losing more of my car features. Image quality: The Thinkware arc700 dashcam provides clear quality images when it is connected to the WiFi pairing with your phone to view the videos. The other way to view the video is with a micro sd card reader. Installation: It took me a while to install the dash cam to my windshield because of the issue I was having with the WiFi connection. To get the proper placement I needed to view what the dashcam was viewing from my phone. After a few tries I was able to get it mounted. The adhesive appeared to be really strong so I recommend being certain on the placement. What I like most about this camera is that it comes with the rear camera and a clear 4k resolution. The low profile is also great but I would love to see them incorporate a little camera to view videos without your phone. At the end of my few days of driving with this I do think this camera does well to have in any vehicle to keep a record of what’s happening while driving and can be really helpful for driving accidents. This is going to be my main dash cam camera for now but I will continue looking for something that will work better for me.

The Thinkware ARC700 is a powerhouse dash cam that blends cutting-edge video quality with robust safety features, making it ideal for drivers who demand clarity, reliability, and smart surveillance. This dual front and rear dash cam features the Sony STARVIS IMX415 for the 4K UHD front camera captures razor-sharp detail, even in low light. And a 2K QHD for the rear camera. Both features Wide Dynamic Range for balance for high contrast scenes like tunnels or nighttime traffic. The built-in GPS provides speed camera alerts, location tagging, and driving data. It also has Thermal protection to prevent overheating which we really need in the South. With the Wi-Fi connectivity it lets you review footage, adjust settings, and download clips via the Thinkware Dash Cam Link app. • The Thinkware ARC700 is always watching without being intrusive(recording interior video). It offers three distinct parking recording modes—Motion Detection, Time Lapse, and Energy Saving Mode—each designed to balance surveillance coverage and power efficiency. Here is a summary of each: o Motion Detection Mode it activates when motion is detected near the vehicle or an impact occurs. It will capture 10 seconds before and 10 seconds after the event (20-second clip), so you are sure to capture everything if something happens. This mode is best for high-traffic areas like street parking or busy lots where movement is frequent. Pros: Records only when something happens, saving storage. Cons: May miss fast-moving events if motion isn’t detected in time. o Time Lapse Mode continuously records at 2 frames per second (2 FPS), creating a condensed video. It will create a 2-minute clip from a 10-minute real-time period. If an impact occurs, it records 50 seconds before and 50 seconds after. This mode is great for long-term parking where you want a visual log of activity. Pros: Covers everything without gaps, uses less storage than full-frame video. Cons: Lower frame rate may miss fine details or fast motion. o Energy Saving Mode is in sleep mode and wakes only when an impact is detected. It captures 1 second after impact and continues for 20 seconds. This is best for Overnight parking or extended stays where battery conservation is critical. Pros: Minimal power draw, ideal for preserving car battery. Cons: Doesn’t record motion—only wakes for impact. The Thinkware ARC700 is more than a dash cam—it's a digital co-pilot. With its 4K clarity, intelligent parking modes, and mobile-friendly controls, it’s perfect for commuters, road trippers, and anyone who wants top-tier protection and documentation. If you're building out a smart cockpit HUD or need cinematic-quality driving footage for creative projects, this cam fits right in.

I was SO excited to receive this dashcam. I'd been looking to buy one for a few months after a near-collision leaving work earlier this summer. I wasn't sure what brand to go with, but they're all pretty similar in the specs offered, and this one had pretty good ratings so when the opportunity presented itself, I jumped on it. So far, I'm very happy with it. It doesn't take up much space in my window, one of the reasons I was hesitant to buy one. I didn't want anything distracting during my drive, blocking my view in any direction. The feel of the unit itself is well made. The video quality - and sound - are great! Clear, high-res, color video / picture FROM BOTH FRONT AND BACK DIRECTION at the same time. I'm still working out how to use some of the other capabilities, for instance, I'm not sure why or if exact placement matters, but I feel like it might not be picking up on all of the cameras at all intersections? It's only been a few days, and just having it in the car is going to take a little getting used to. An unexpected plus, although I knew I could program the video to start recording if my car is hit while parked, I have also been able to turn the camera on just because I want to take a look at what's going on in front of my house. Super plus in my book. I'll come back to upload some video after I've had it for a few more days! A great accessory for safety and peace of mind!

Overall, I really like this Thinkware ARC700 Dash Cam - Thinkware has been designing dash cams for some time now and it really shows in the design of this product. Installation of the front camera was pretty easy - for the front, you can pretty easily wire it up in 3 different ways (from the fuse box, from the OBDII port or from the 12V power port). While the 12V is the easiest by far, if you want to use the parking protection (which is a big selling point here, especially for EV owners), you’ll want to use another method. I went with OBDII as I seldom use that port for anything else. Mounting and aiming the front camera is fairly easy though if you want to hide the wiring, you might have to work on some of your trim pieces to get the wire underneath. For the rear camera, well that’s a BIGGER wiring issue if you want to hide the wire (go slow and it can be done). If you’re mounting in an SUV, you’ll want to make sure you account for the rear door moving in your place and/or wiring of the rear camera. Once installed, the app makes setup pretty easy - you will need the app of course and likely a (much) bigger MicroSD card if you want to store much recording. The recordings are VERY clear from both the front and the back (provided that your windshield /rear window is clean and unobscured of course) and you can easily read licenses plates. This is true both on day shots and night vision though looking into the sun is as hard for the camera as for a person. Recording your driving - and your parking - is great for peace of mind and security / safety. So if this dash cam buys you some of that, then it’s well worth the price of entry. Give it a try today!

Dash Cams are almost a need today. Unfortunately traffic accidents happen and a dash cam can definitely be the difference in who gets assigned liability. However, a dash cam can be so much more. It can also be your security camera when you park and catch hit & runs, vandalism, etc. I have had several dash cams from a variety of brands and used them in accidents successfully. In my experience, this ThinkWare ARC700 comes in as a very middle of the road dash cam. In the box, this camera includes the front camera and mount, the rear camera, a USB style cord that connects the front camera to the rear, a 12v cigarette lighter power supply for simple wiring, and a hardwire kit that will keep the camera on in parking surveillance mode while off, and turn it into driving mode when the vehicle is turned on. Neither the main camera or the rear camera are equipped with a screen so all of the interaction is done via the ThinkWare Dash Cam Link. I chose to hardwire my setup as I wanted to utilize the parking surveillance features. Do not be scared by this option. Its simple and only 3 wires: 12v Constant, 12v Accessory (Key on), and a ground wire. Luckily I already had connections setup from my previous dash cam install, however if you are starting fresh, you can buy a couple Add-a-Fuse kits and tap into a couple fuses on your vehicles fuse box. For constant power, I used the horn fuse. For 12v Accessory, I used the heated seats fuse. I chose these because with the car off, the horn still works, however the heated seats only work when the car is on. The ground wire can be mounted to any screw or bolt that goes directly into metal. I used the ground bolt for the fuse box. WIRE YOUR CAMERA BEFORE YOU MOUNT IT! I say this because you will need to to connect your phone to your dash cam and view the live feed to make sure you mount the camera in the correct place. The lens has up and down adjustments, however you want to make sure you keep the lens away from obstructions and make sure it is able to see what it needs to see in the event of an accident or incident. After install, I would say that the video quality is average. It will show you what happened, however I did not see the clarity, brightness, color, or details I have seen in my other dash cams. This was disappointing. The audio recording quality was surprisingly good, however I turn in car audio off as no one needs to hear me sing. There are audible cues from the device at start up which I find nice, however my girlfriend finds annoying. The camera will let you know when it is starting surveillance mode or when it is starting driving mode. The camera, upon starting driving mode, will audibly provide you with the number of motion incidents it recorded while parked, and then wish you a safe drive. Downloading footage through the app is also simple, which would be important if you needed to supply video to law enforcement or your insurance company. However the app offers no frills or impressive features. Overall, the ThinkWare ARC700 is a simple, basic front/rear dash cam that will get the job done. It does not have any screens, the video is average, the audio is superb, and everything from install to use is just that...simple. Are there superior options out there? Yes. Are there worse options out there? Yes. Will this camera get the job done? Again, yes. Given the right price, I would pick it up. If everything is equal, I would weigh other options.

Installation can be as simple or as difficult as you want to make it. It just depends on if you want to hardwire and how well you want to hide cables, but this is the case for most dashcams anyway, so… They do include a small trim tool to help tuck cables behind trim, so that’s convenient. My biggest complaint would be that they do not include the OBD II cable. I’d much rather they include the OBD cable instead of the hardwire cable as that would be a lot more useful for most customers, and allow them to utilize more of the features. As it is, most will likely just use the traditional 12v cable, but then you won’t be able to take advantage of the parking protection. For the cost of this camera versus some others, I would expect all three cables. If you're just going to use the 12v, save some money and buy something less expensive. Night driving The front camera handles light glare better than my other dashcam, but has a slightly grainier picture. It can’t handle twilight very well, especially if driving into the sun. The light balance is so far off that you can mostly just make out shapes, with little detail. The rear camera is all around better than my other dashcam at night; detail, lighting and field of view are all quite good. The daytime clarity of both cameras is good but the color seems to be off, being a little skewed towards red. The phone app is pretty basic, but it’s easy to navigate. It does use wifi to connect to the camera, so be aware of that if you’re also using a wireless android adapter as they will likely interfere with each other. Shouldn’t be a problem for most people, but it could for some. Once I turned off my android adapter, connecting to the camera was quick and uneventful. The desktop application is fine. Nothing spectacular, but better than others I’ve used. After starting to play a file, it automatically shows the corresponding video from the rear camera as well, which is nice. It also automatically moves on to the next file. Clarity isn’t the greatest though as there’s some pixelation in playback; note that this is not present when playing the same file in another application like VLC or Windows Media Player. At the end of the day, the camera is just okay. If they included the OBD II cable I’d be more inclined to recommend it, but if you’re just going to use the 12v cable, there are other cameras out there that will give you the same features for less.
