Customers are saying

Customers admire the VIA 1525M 5" GPS for its ease of use, accurate GPS navigation, and lifetime map updates. Many appreciate the device's reasonable price and larger screen, finding it easy to navigate and use. While some users experienced issues with battery life and the mount, the positive feedback on navigation accuracy and ease of use outweighs these concerns. The inclusion of helpful features like lane guidance is also frequently praised.

Screen would freeze and lock up. Unable to navigate during the lockup. This is very alarming when in heavy traffic conditions. Contacting TOM TOM for a replacement.

So I purchased this TomTom via 1525M 1 week ago. TomTom no longer would give me map updates for my XL340 with lifetime maps which worked perfectly. So after using this "new and improved" version driving through Louisiana and Texas in the last week, I discovered I did not like it. For one thing it is not accurate. Directions were sometimes off by 1/4 mile. Also, when you are coming up on interstate exchanges, it is not that clear which lane you are supposed to be in or which exit you are to take, and we are towing a travel trailer! I never had this problem with my trusty XL340. It had gotten us through 48 states with our travel trailer in the last 2 years since I retired. So after much investigation I took back the new TomTom and bought a Garmin Drive 52 and have not looked back. The Garmin Drive 52 gives you real time directions with street names. It is wonderful!!! It always shows your next exit or turn with mileage at the top of the screen. It is fantastic! And when you come up to your next exit, it goes to split screen and shows you which lane you should be in. It is idiot proof I tell you! And it has lifetime maps as well, even though it doesn't have LM on the box. I called Garmin to make sure. Goodbye TomTom, it was a great ride with the XL340.

    Updates You While Driving

GPS owners ask for a lot these days, and I feel that the TomTom holds up to some important minimum requirements. My commute is on an interstate between Lincoln, NE and a nearby town (I-80). The highway's in my area can get pretty tricky. That's where the split screen popping up - showing which lane I need to be in - helps a bunch. The TomTom 1525 gives directions via adjustable volume voice unlike my old Garmin nuvi, and gives notice for upcoming tricky navigation steps on the route. Sometimes the GPS can give useful ahead of time directions: If there's two turns coming up in quick succession, you see not one but two turn arrows, showing that. That's great! However, the route progress indicator to the right (The "route bar" according to the manual), has route icons on the way to the destination that talk about where to find gas and lodging, and they need improvement. They overlap each other sometimes though where there are multiple features coming up, and become useless quickly. I want to instead be able to tap the map screen, and see a 2-D overview of the area I'm driving in. Can't do that with TomTom. Can do it with Garmin nuvi. This GPS works. I bought it from Best Buy in store for cheap, and it works. It's not the greatest it could be though - the driver features available while driving need to be more streamlined.

    Disappointed

I was very disappointed because the fact that straight from the box, it have issues. Takes forever to leave and put in an address. For some reason it doesn’t hold a charge, maybe in the first month it did, but after that nothing. And I honestly liked Tomtom I, like the design and the style, but it just had too many issues and This one was my third one and I was done. Moved on to Garmin. And I’m not looking back. Don’t waste your time with Tomtom, trust me you’re going to be disappointed. .

good product, package missing IMPORTANT detail

This is my review since the manufacturer enclosed a card requesting a review on this item, Let me just state for the record that I PREFER TomTom over it's competitors for it's straightforward displays. I have used older TomTom products in the past and been happy, such as the TomTom One and an XL model (forget which). The problem with this one is that they DID NOT enclose a warranty terms in the package! I had to scrutinize the fine print with a magnifying glass on the directions only to redirect me to the website which states it, UNACCEPTABLE from such a well known company!!!

    Great Gps, but lacks traffic

Hello, first I would like to start off by stating that this listing is INCORRECT. This Gps does NOT support traffic, nor will receive and traffic information. This gps only has lifetime maps but no traffic. The model that does have both lifetime maps and traffic is the 1525TM model. I very disappointed once I had found out that it did not have traffic. But, other than that this is a fantastic gps. It is very clear and the voice navigation is loud. The screen also doesn't stutter like other gps. Great GPS if you don't mind having traffic.

    Life time map update

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

"Lifetime" means for the lifetime of the product, not you. The manufacturer will declare the EOL and the updates die with it. That is the only reason I am forced to shop for a new GPS even though I have a perfectly functioning device installed in my car.
