You get ear buds, with the Play station, and buds, and a mike with the Helmet. The items issued are easier to wear with the helm, and don't sound too bad. Buy these only if you want the best sound, but they are not required to fully enjoy your playstation.

At the time, he worked evenings while I worked mornings, so there were many instances in which he wanted to play a game while I tried to sleep. This headset solved all of our issues perfectly since he could set all audio through the headset! He absolutely loves it! I haven't tried it on my PS4 just yet, but he's satisfied, and I can sleep soundly while he enjoys his games.
