Customers are saying

Customers commend the Elite 800 Wireless DTS 7.1-Channel Surround Sound Gaming Headset's exceptional sound quality, wireless functionality, and comfortable design. Many also appreciate its good battery life. However, some users find the buttons overly sensitive, the price high, and the fit snug for larger heads. A few also noted the headset's weight as a potential issue during extended use.

I've owned around 14 different gaming headsets in the last 5 years. I've had several turtle beach, tritton, and Sony headsets. I even had a cheap radioshack and bestbuy brand headset. I love great quality sound. I currently own a pair of Astro A50 and they are the best sounding and most comfortable gaming headsets I've owned. When I saw these sets I thought that maybe turtle beach created something greater than the Astros. I was wrong. The quality of the elite 800 do not justify a $300 price point. They indeed sound a little above average at best, but the surround sound feels off. Things in the distance sound way too close and thus results in loss of immersion. The plastic on the headset is better grade than other turtle beaches, but still feels fragile and weak. Comfort is by far the best feature. The elite 800 feel great on your head. The ear cushions are very soft and comfortable. The headband is also very comfortable. All the blue tooth features work as intended. One feature that doesn't work is hearing your own voice. The elite 800 have hidden "high quality" mics in replacement of regular removable wire mic. It doesn't work when it comes to hearing your own voice. It's not as loud and clear as other, cheaper, more terrible turtle beaches. You sound robotic and very faint. You can't hear yourself in loud scenes, none the less quiet ones. There are way better headphones for cheaper. For those looking to switch from Astro, don't. Astros still sound and feel much better.

It has cool features, the mic is good but it has some critical issues for a $250 premium headset Every 30 mins it gets distorted sound. Only way to fix it is to unplug fiber optic cable and plug back in... Which is annoying when playing! It also disconnects from the base randomly for 5-10 sec. Annoying when having a conversion with someone. It has happened 3 times in 5 months I've had to factory reset it from a computer... It just stops working... Honestly if I was not in an IT troubleshooting career, it would have been garbage. The quality you would expect is just not there... I've had GOOD Turtle beaches in the past but my next headset will NOT be from them. The way this headset performs is at the 100 dollar value.

I purchased this item quite a while ago and i found the item to be very cheap and its wire died so i couldn't hear game or console audio, also i went to adjust the head shape and the headset is broken. I am definitely returning it because this is the 3rd headset I've been through.

Background: Gaming headsets I've owned previously include the 1st Sony wireless headset, the elite pulse (not comfortable to me), and the Tiamat 7.1 (awful). I'm not a competitive gamer (mostly cause I am terrible) so it's mostly games like Uncharted, Assassin's Creed, Dead Space, and so on. But I do play online with friends. The other products I was considering are the Astro A50 (and maybe you are too cause there's no other headset in this baller price range) and the TB Stealth 500P (looks like a cheaper Elite 800, figuratively and literally). The A50 is a straight up wireless, Dolby head-set without extra frills. It just does what it does, and really well from what I've read. The 500P is a similar DTS headset but $170(!!) cheaper. I've read (mostly) great reviews for these 3 and it's safe to assume they all sound more or less great. As long as it's not terrible, it's fine (I do have other headphones purely for music). So for me it's comparing features, and here are the features unique to the Elite 800 that will hopefully help you decide if it's worth giving up an extra $170 or the Astro Brand: -wireless charging dock. pick up the head-set and it turns on. put it down and it turns off. pure awesome. -noise-cancellation. i have a window ac unit (not quiet) and it gets blocked out. not needed, but nice to have. you can turn it off/on of course. -bluetooth. lets you to connect with phones, ps vita, etc. connecting with a phone will let you hear notifications and there's an app with a volume mixer and ability to change the 15 or so available surround presets. 500P has 3. The headset does not rely on bluetooth for gaming chat/audio. -no unnecessary boom mic. two hidden mics. -elite membership which most importantly gives 1 extra year of warranty. Plastic headsets tend to fail at a higher rate it seems, especially if in daily use. These seems solidly built though, but better safe than sorry. -you also get a tshirt or hoodie, and 2 speaker plates. Total of $85 on their site. So i got overpriced stuff for sorta free. yay. you don't get the full selection of plates to pick from. Compared to the 500P you also get connectivity with PC/Mac/Xbox and better build quality as well. And compared to the A50 you can wear the 800 outside and not look as awkward. Same with the 500P, but to a lesser extant. Downside, these buttons are really sensitive. Lean back wrong and I've either turned on bluetooth or changed the preset accidentally. There's a low hum/hiss which you can't really tell unless there's no audio. Really can't complain otherwise. Like the typical guy I tried to do stuff without reading. The sound will be jacked up if your PS4 is set to output all sounds to headset. Make it output chat only, and turn down your receiver/tv. To get the # to get elite membership, you have to register the product. I was thinking it would be on the welcome card... I think you do get $170 worth of stuff to make up the price difference compared to the stealth. But it's not necessarily worth $170 to everyone. I'd pay $120 for the extra features and warranty. Nix the "free stuff" and drop the price by $50 and it would be great.

I have owned these now for about a month. The sound is very precise though there is a slight humming the emits from the headset without any reason and no mater what setting it is on. Noise cancellation is a welcomed feature for me and works flawlessly. I have not had any issues with the headset and base communicating with each other luckily. Charging is fine, though I wish the battery life was a tad bit longer, bluetooth does drain it a bit. For those saying the mic sounds like you're in a bathroom, it does, you must choose "quiet room" setting on the headset. I found that to resolve the issue, NOBODY I play with hears any difference between these and my 500x. The comfort factor is not there. These are truly the least comfortable headsets I've ever owned, including previous Turtle Beach models, 500, 510, Tango's and the 500x. These are a very tight fit, not sure if just me, but not the most comfortable, but tolerable. All the features works great, bluetooth works great, have not had a single issue yet with them and the Turtle Beach app allows me to change any setting on the headset from my phone, big plus! Listening to Pandora through bluetooth while gaming is pretty nice as well. Overall, very nice headset, seems built very strong, still plastic, but sturdy plastic. Foam cushions are nice, but again, not the most comfortable headset I've owned. Everything is as expected from this headset aside from the permanent humming static sound that doesn't go away and the fitment. B+ headset for those willing to fork out the $$$ for them.

I ordered two of these from Best Buy. I set up the first one last night and had no issues. I have been reading many folks on other sites saying that the mic sounds awful but I did not experience this issue during party chat with my friends. I upgraded the headset and transmitter via PC and the Turtle Beach Audio Hub straight out of the box. I then turned on my Xbox and signed into my profile. I then followed the instructions given for how to set up the audio output. After that I connected the transmitter and turned on the headset. Everything worked with no issues. I proceeded to join a party chat with two of my friends and asked them how I sounded. I was told I sounded clear and audible. You will never be as loud as someone with a boom mic placed directly in front of their mouth but I was loud enough and clear enough to play some Titanfall with them and communicate at the same time. I think it is also important for people to understand that you can not have active noise cancellation and mic monitoring on at the same time with this headset. Out of the box active noise cancellation is turned on so mic monitoring is not working. You must turn off active noise cancellation and then turn on mic monitoring if you wish to hear yourself speaking through the headphones. The mic monitoring feature of this headset does tend to sound a bit strange if you turn it up very high (kind of robotic) but my friends said that my actual voice sounded normal. Lastly, please make sure your mic preset is set on quiet room. On any setting other than quiet room I was told that I sounded very far away. Each setting seemed to add a further amount of distance to my voice until I hit the Outside setting at which point my friends said that I sounded like I was talking through my Kinect. My point is (at least in my usage so far) that the mic is audible and clear... Just a bit lower in volume than someone with a boom mic placed directly in front of their mouth (which should honestly be expected with any hidden microphone). Everything from build quality to in game sound has been top notch through about 5 hours of usage as well. I hope this helps some folks out when trying to find the best possible settings for the microphone.

I would like to start by saying I was blow away by the Elite 800X until I accepted a party chat invite.... I love Turtle Beach products and have always chosen them over all other brands of gaming headsets. Pros: This is one of the best headsets I have put on! The sound is crystal clear! Best simulated 7.1 I have ever played with. Presets are great and give you variety second to no one. The noise canceling is amazing and totally puts you in the zone. Bluetooth...great add on...seamlessly answer calls while playing and even listen to music while playing. Being completely wireless was a huge plus for me, i mean its 2016 we shouldn't need to be tied to the controller...(A50). The Memory foam makes these extremely comfortable for even long sessions of play. The charging dock.... only way to describe it is SEXY! This is one my favorite parts of this headset. It looks good enough that my Girlfriend doesn't mind it being out in plan sight in our decorated living room. I don't know why more headsets don't have a magnetic charging dock... it really is the BEES KNEES!. This headset had it all and was worth every penny until.... you join a party chat. Con: (ONLY ONE CON) Microphone... the hidden microphone is just awful. I did all the updates (as of 1/3/2016) and even exchanged the product once just to make sure it wasn't just a fluke. Everyone i chatted with said i sounded like i was underwater... at the bottom of a tin can... on the other side of the room... and on speakerphone. Mic monitoring is a huge perk for me because I mostly play at night and don't want to be yelling over some intense COD Black Ops III. With that said the mic on the Elite 800X makes mic monitoring a joke. I found myself cupping my hand over the mic like a make shift boom mic whenever I had important information to say. I was yelled at many a time for yelling trash talk at 3am on a weekday. All other turtle beach products with a boom mic are top dogs when it comes to the chat quality! I just do not understand why Turtle Beach decided to not have a optional boom mic attachment, it was a huge let down for me. Sadly I made the hard decision to return the headset and pick up the Stealth 500X instead. I loved the elite 800X but just couldn't live with the mic. A $300 headset needs to at least offer a mic that is close to the bar turtle beach set for themselves. To summarize this is one heck of a headset! It's bells and whistles have their own bells and whistles! it is sleek, sexy and comfortable. Game sound quality is AMAZING! But the chat mic... is sad at best. If you at a gamer who doesn't care about chat this headset might be for you, it can be used as an everyday headset. You could walking to class or to work or traveling and no one would think that the fancy noise canceling headset is a gamer headset. But if you play online with friends.... be prepared for them to think you are joking when they hear the mic quality of your new $300 Headset.

I bought these on a whim. I needed a pair of headphones while playing the PS4 because I didn't want to drive the wife crazy while I was playing Dying Light. They seem to be well built and they are really comfortable when you're wearing them. Setup was straightforward and took a few minutes. When I turned on the PS4 and put on the headset I immediately noticed the hissing noise. This was a little disappointing considering that they were $300 and that my cheaper pair of wireless Turtle Beaches for the XboxOne were hiss free. I played with them for a few days, but during the quiet spots in the game I could hear the hiss. The regular gameplay sounded great, but at times it was hard to hear friends talking. I decided that they were not worth the money so I took them back and got a pair of the Astro Gaming A50's. FYI...Those were worse.

Bought a set of these headphones last week, the sound started cutting in and out almost immediately. Returned them and was told they were a defective pair, was given a new pair as an exchange. The new ones did the exact same thing. I followed every instruction to a T, did a software update from the turtle beach app on my PC. No success! It took less than 24 hours and we are returning the second headset in favor of buying a second pair of a different brand that we currently own. (2 gamers in this house, one functioning heaset excluding these). DO NOT BUY!!! THERE IS A REASON THEY MARKED THESE DOWN!!!!!

Having done research on several headsets, between Turtle Beach, Tritton, Astro, and Plantonics, I chose the TB Elite 800X. After reading tons of reviews for all four companies top headsets, and being a former user of Tritton and Astro, currently TB Stealth 500x, I really liked what I read about the Elite 800x. Overall, the headset feel like it's of sturdy construction, solid in all the places that need to be, especially the slider part to extend the ear cups. This is where the 500x failed. Cheap plastic that started to crack after a while then broke. I had the 500x for just about two years when the sliders finally cracked all the way through and rendered the headset inoperable. But I had to be very ginger with them for over a year to avoid them from breaking sooner. The ear cup rotation allows for adjustment to get a solid fit over my ears. Yes, the headset does feel a but snug, for me, I like this. It stays in place and doesn't creep. I like that there is no boom mic, simply due to one more part that could break. I've read in others reviews that players complain about muffled voice chat due to the internal mics. This is very easily remedied by performing a firmware update right out of the box. My crew have said that the voice chat coming from me sounds more clear than it did with my 500x. UPDATE THE FIRMWARE FIRST!! As with all electronics, it's wise to make sure your firmware is up to date, if allowed. The preset audio patches are enough to make any audiophile happy. Depending on the situation you find yourself in, playing FPS, racing, watching a movie, or grooving to music, this headset has you covered. And if you are that big of an audio snob, you can preload the headset with a number of other patches from the Audio Hub on PC or Mac. You're bound to find a couple of patches that work solid for you. The voice chat boost works quite well. You're hot and heavy in a match, action suddenly intensifies, everything is exploding around you, and your teams audio chat comes through clear as a bell. One of my favorite features about this headset is the Bluetooth connectivity! GIven how snug the headset is and the noise cancellation feature, you really don't hear the outside world. I hear text notifications while I'm playing so at least I know to check my phone in between matches. And who doesn't love their own personal soundtrack while wreaking havoc across the gaming world?!?! Set up your playlist, connect to the headset, hit play and prepare to rock out as you decimate your opponents!! I've been able to get around 7-8hrs life from the internal battery, on a full charge. I should note that I am running Bluetooth at the same time, so this does drain the battery faster. For the hardcore gamer, which I tend to be when I go on a weekend rampage, you can use the included mini USB cable to charge your headset as you continue to play. Only thing is that you'd need an extension cable to reach an outlet. The included mini USB cable is relatively short. Now for the downside.... My only complaint about the 800x is that occasionally the voice chat doesn't seem to work after powering on the headset. I've looked on the internet to find a solution to this and best anyone can come up with is the same that I've done; unplug the USB connection from your Xbox and plug it back in. It's definitely not a deal breaker, however, one should expect their equipment to work, especially at the price paid. All around, I'm quite impressed with the Elite 800x. From the sleek design, plethora of audio surround sound modes, Bluetooth, construction & overall feel, I would definitely give the Elite 800x a shot. Give it a good shot though! Not a one day and exchange it type shot. Really vet it for a week or so, play with the audio settings, try with multiple games and movies. And most of all.... UPDATE THE FIRMWARE out of the box first!! Thanks for taking the time to read this. Hope it helps in making your decision a bit more informed.

As many of the other reviews say the mic is absolutely worthless. It will work for a while then cut in and out and sometimes not work at all. The idea of a built in mic is nice but evidently they haven't quite figured it out yet. This headset is the guini pig for the built in mic and you don't want to waste your money. Plus they are extremely tight and uncomfortable and I would have taken them back for that reason even if the mic did work. I exchanged them for the Astro A50s which while not perfect are the most comfortable headset your going to get. Mic and sound work great on them as well.

I used to love turtle beach. Their xp500 was amazing in previous gen. These ones are suppose to be the flagship of this gen. The sound was average at best. They also crackled alot. Wasnt very good quality especially for the price. I returned them after 2 weeks. Do yourself a favor and get the Astro TR a40's instead. By far better than turtle beach. This is coming from someone who thought turtle beach was the only gaming headset you should buy. Back in the day maybe.

To make this short and to the point, the 800x elite headset is poorly designed & very uncomfortable for long game play sessions. The #1 issue being the ear piece controls. I like to relax when I play ( recline I’m my lazy boy , head back & enjoy my game play). IMPOSSIBLE to do with this garbage headset!! The slightest accidental Bump sets off the controls...unless you enjoy sitting straight up and not let your head rest or be in a comfortable position, this headset is not for you! I bought the Turtle Beach 800 series for their audio performance and less for gaming. However, I do own both a Xbox one and PS4 and was amazed by how much they changed my experience while playing them. They have actually encouraged me to play more, as I am not becoming more engrossed in my gaming experience. The audio quality is crisp and detailed, and the utility of the headphones are outstanding. I can pair the headphones to their radio transmitter in order to play my console games, and I can use the bluetooth protocol on my PC for gaming there as well. Even better, I can pair to both at the same time and simultaneously listen to audio from both sources. Meaning, I can run my favorite playlist off of my PC while gaming on my PS4/Xbox one and adjust the audio between each source to prioritize what I want to hear more. The active noise cancelling is incredible. It gives me an isolated feeling that pushes out the ambience around me and sucks me in to the experience. The other presets on the headset are more luxuries than anything, and I dont really use them, but I can understand their merit for more hardcore gamers (i.e: superhuman hearing or "Footstep isolator") Lastly, I've seen a lot of poor reviews on here for this amazing product purely due to user error. When connecting to the ps4, you need to adjust your settings so the ps4 knows not to prioritize the usb connection for the headset. We want the audio to push from the optical audio and not the usb. For a very easy set up and an unbeatable experience, connect both the USB power cord and the Optical Audio cable directly to the TV in use. This set up will push any audio that would traditionally come from the TV into the transmitter and to the Headset. This set up will give us audio from anything connected to the TV. Consoles, Cable, Antenna, and even smart features on the television... and it will sound AWESOME.
