Customers are saying
Customers commend the Elite 800 Wireless DTS 7.1-Channel Surround Sound Gaming Headset's exceptional sound quality, wireless functionality, and comfortable design. Many also appreciate its good battery life. However, some users find the buttons overly sensitive, the price high, and the fit snug for larger heads. A few also noted the headset's weight as a potential issue during extended use.

Listen to other reviews about the mic issues!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Looking to replace my Astro A50's since I want to be completely wireless. I can't stand having to be tethered to my Xbox controller for chat anymore. I spent days and days reading reviews about the mic issue with this headset. I usually don't do that since sometimes the reviews are people expecting too much from a product and go overboard. But some say Turtle Beach released a patch for the headset that fixed it. So I decide to buy. I also don't usually write negative reviews....but this on is pretty bad and people need to know. Thank heavens that Best Buy has such an easy no questions asked return policy. First off quality of the headset was what I expected. Not quite the build quality of the Astro A50's but I am an adult gamer I treat my stuff very gently so I don't see any issue there in the future for me personally at least. Set up was a pain and easy at the same time. First thing you need to do is update it. Simple for a tech savvy guy like myself. The problem I ran into was I have a Surface Pro 3. Turtle Beach requires that both the receiver and the headset needs to be plugged into the computer at the same time....meaning you need 2 USB ports. The Surface Pro 3 only has 1!!!! I had to run to my parents house and get an old laptop of mine I gave them to be able to just update these. So if you only have a Surface make sure you have access to another computer to update them. I read online that a USB hub will work but can not confirm that. Once I was able to plug both of them in the update was simple. Download Turtle Beach program. Plug in the USB ports and hit update and it does it all. The mic issues....what can I say here other than how extremely disappointed I was. I can not believe Turtle Beach has the nerve to sell this headset for $300 and consider the mic as working. I wasn't even in my Xbox party chat for 30 seconds and the jokes from my friends started. "Are you playing from your bathtub?" "Dude turn you Kinect off and get a real mic" "You sound like your playing outside" "You sound like a mile away form the mic" How this headset ever made it past R&D and got a passing grade baffles me. I am speechless that Turtle Beach finds this acceptable. Needless to say they got boxed back up and taken straight back to the store. I exchanged them for the 500x model. I will write a review on that after I test them. If your buying these just for single player games they are decent although I would but the A50's high on the list. If you want to use them for chat DON'T. Listen to the reviews on this one please.

Headset left me disapointed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this headset because of the wireless ability as well as the customization of the sound settings thru the mobile app. those two things was really nice but unfortunately i returned the headset 24 hours later because of the negative things. the first one of those is the mic, i was constantly told i sounded like i was using the kinect mic. problem with that is i don't even have a kinect hooked up to my xbox. for $300 i should not be told it sounded like the kinect mic. even after trying every setting they had on the mobile app for this headset i could not get it to sound any better, and yes i did update all firmware from their website before use. the other major issue i had was the comfort of this headset. i do not have a small head by any means but after 40 min. of use my ears where starting to hurt pretty bad. these do not surround your ears, they sit right on top of your ears and put quite a bit of pressure on them. when it came to that the headset did not feel like a $300 elite gaming headset. those two things also are the reason why my 11 year old son chose to keep his $80 skullcandy headset over these. i ended up returning them. the good worth $300: sound and 100% wireless the bad not worth $300: really uncomfortable and poor mic sound don't care how well they sound and if they are wireless. if you can't wear them more than an hour of gaming then whats the use for them. then being told that your mic sounds like your using the kinect is not what you want to hear when you are using the so called "ELITE" $300 gaming headset.

Great for Gaming XB1
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I finally gave this headset a try and it was well worth it. I was a bit worried about the no boom mic but with the proper setting I still sound normal to the people I game with. The overall sound is incredible - I will need to keep the directions out for a while since there are quite a few preset settings but IMO worth it. By far the best sounding gaming headset I have used to date. Don't be afraid t experiment with the pre settings to get the sound your looking for. Another note when changing the settings there is an actual voice telling you which setting you just enabled so you don't have to count beeps or light flashes but you will know what setting you are on,, a big plus. The charging stand is extremely simple just place the headset in the stand and it's charging no plugging any cords in. I use them for gaming on my Xone and am very happy with my choice to give this set a try. I rate them over other headsets at the same price.

Not worth the price in my opinion
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Best thing going for them is that they are truly, completely wireless, when connected to the XBOX One. It has good sound quality, noise cancellation works well, and you can do a lot with them. I was listening to game audio, game chat, cell phone audio, and laptop all at the same time. It was a bit much, but I wanted to see it happen. Being completely wireless while hooked up to a phone you can take that call without having to leave the game and miss out on what your friends are saying, but the mic is taken by the phone for the duration of the call. Plus, with noise cancellation and the very tight fit, you pretty much hear nothing around you while playing. The DTS surround function worked for the most part, but was not as true or precise as having a home surround sound system. As they do fit really tight, in order to have nice noise cancellation, they did cause me to have a bit of ear discomfort and eventual sweating. Occasional breaks were required. The phone app is kind of essential for these headphones as there are a ton of presets and it is easier to select the presets through it as well as adjust each volume set. The bad side is that it has a ton of presets and no personal EQ function. Some presets, like footsteps or super human hearing will distort all other sounds, like background music. Another down side is how easy it is to bump the side of the headphones and change the preset. Then, if not using the app, you have to cycle through each preset (4-6 options depending on the category), interrupting all audio in the process. There is not lock button and this was probably the most annoying thing for me as I have a plush couch. If I leaned back into it I was either changing the preset (back right button) or starting Bluetooth phone audio (back left button). I even accidentally placed a call with a double tap of the Bluetooth button (back left). These headphones connect to the XBOX One via USB and TOSLink fiber optic cable and require a specific setting in order to work, it is provided in the directions. However, with that, they will work with no other system, as I tried on my home receiver and TV. But, you can get stereo audio through Bluetooth from anything supporting Bluetooth, or wired with option 3.5mm cable. The final breaking point for me might not have been issues with the headphones themselves, but I kept having different disconnect issues with the XBOX One. Sometimes the mic would drop where I couldn't talk to the party or the party would drop out where they could hear me, but I couldn't hear them. Cycling power on the headphones, re-assigning the XBOX profile, or pulling the USB cable from the transmit station were possible fix actions, but going through all of that in the middle of a game is frustrating. I just feel that spending this much on a set of headphones and having to troubleshoot them like this is not worth it.

Almost Perfect
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hands down the best headset I've ever purchased. The audio is great. the DTS-X settings are great for a variety of listening situations. The noise cancellation isn't at the same level as Bose (airplane worthy) but fans from computers, people shuffling, and other ambient noise easily is silenced. The Bluetooth AND USB based RFtransmiter combo is the best feature. You can have USB audio, optical audio, and Bluetooth audio active all at once and it sounds wonderful. Here comes the only drawback. NO MIC BOOM. Because of this, the mic audio is odd. The mic is a small hole on the left hear. While there is another supporting mic to assist with noise cancellation, it really doesn't cut it. For general gaming this may be fine but as someone who uses this in a conference call situation, the mic audio is too unreliable. Your levels vary too much and the pre-set room settings only help so much. In summary, best audio experience I've had from a quality and feature packed perspective. Needs a better mic/mic boom to really be the full package; especially at such a high pricepoint. I am downgrading to a Stealth 520 until Turtlebeach can replicate this product with a proper Microphone solution.

Awesome Headphones!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These headphones are incredible. Make sure to download the firmware updating app from Turtle Beach, and plug in the headphones and receiver into your computer and update the firmware. Update software can be found here: http://support.turtlebeach.com/entry/830517625/ This fixes all of the mic issues that you see in comments below and yes they are substantial fixes. When that mess is over, sit back and enjoy because these sound really good! I usually stream music via bluetooth from my phone, play first person shooters and party chat simultaneously. The mic monitoring is OK. Its not fantastic, but its better than yelling because you cant hear yourself. Perhaps future updates will continue to improve this feature.

AWESOME!!!!!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this headset 10/23/14 and I love it!!!!! the controls are easy to use and I like how they can be updated with a program over the computer. The sound is awesome and so clear no matter how loud you have I get no distortion. The Bluetooth is a sweet option and works well. I have it linked to my phone so when im gaming I can hear my phone and answer it in the middle of gaming and is so clear. I can play for hours and they are still just as comfortable as when I first put them on. I had a pair of sony elite ones that hurt the top of my head in just a short amount of time these are far more comfortable.

Decent Headset
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The price could be about $50 cheaper i feel. The only bad part is the speakers feel a little under powered and not very pronounced for a high end headset. I have nothing to compare to though, There are tons of features. No mic works great i still sound okay. Buttons are sensitive but i got used to pretty quick. charging stand looks cool and is easy. Even though it doesnt say these work just fine for xb1 there is only a cable going from the headset to the controller which i dont think it can get much more wireless then that with an xb1.

Best overall headset on the market
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So, I have owned Tritons, Turtle Beach, Astro's, and Sony Golds. I actually returned a set of the 2014 Astro A 50's for these headsets, and am completely pleased with the results. The sound clarity is a little bit better on the Astro's. but the depth of field and sound stage on the 800's is much better. I love have the Bluetooth features on these headsets, not to mention the fact that the noise cancelling works great. The battery life is exceptional as well. I can use them with my PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Vita, my PC, and my iPhone.

Earcandy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I upgraded from the Stealth 500p and am very happy. The Elite's are a very good build quality. I find that the buttons are not easily pushed if you grasp the ear cans around the perimeter. Just takes a little concentration. Presets are a nice option and updating the firmware was a breeze. Mic works without a hitch which was my main concern. I have a very low voice that does not project well but friends hear me loud and clear. I tried a pair of A50's right before I got these and am not disappointed. Sounds seem slightly muffled on the Astros but are nice and crisp on the Elites. There's actually a preset that reminded me of how the Astros sound but I obviously skipped over that setting. Hopefully I get my hoodie before the fall. Don't really care about the plates.

Great!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This headset is amazing. I am glad I waited for these to come out instead of settling on the Tango. I did have one issue, my nephews were playing with it and they managed to disconnect the Bluetooth and it took awhile to hook it back up to my Xbox and TV. But initial set up took no more than 30 seconds. And my TV is Bluetooth compatible so as soon as you power up TV and headphones they connect. And when the Xbox goes on and headphones power they connect. There I sno need to go into settings to change. I sit about 16ft away from the TV and the headphones are crisp and the noise cancellation works great. Best part is the internal mic. Amazing quality and everything can be heard without background noise involved. I highly recommend. Absolutely worth the $300.

Hyper-Sensitive Buttons
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The quality of the sound is VERY good on this headset, but it doesn't take much pressure at all to press the buttons on the side. If you want to play games while sitting back, chances are the buttons on either side will be pressed. Each time a button is pressed or held, a very loud voice overrides all other sounds. Unless you're sitting perfectly upright or in such position where the buttons would never be pressed by anything else, then these headsets are perfect! Otherwise, it becomes excessively annoying. These are being repackaged in the box and straight back to BB.

Great Sound But Unusable Controls
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These headphones met everything I wanted in specs. High quality wireless + Bluetooth, surround sound, noise canceling feature, over the ear design and optical input. I have used them to play games, watch movies and connect to my iPhone for music and calls. The noise cancellation is decent and I generally have it on. The ear cups are soft, but overall they aren't very comfortable because the headband presses the cups too hard against the side of your head and there is no way to adjust the pressure. But that isn't the reason why I gave it 2 stars and will be returning the unit. The reason is because the controls on the side are too easy to activate. The entire left and right side plates are the controls for 8 functions. It only takes a very light touch to activate one of them and the corresponding overly loud voice announcement of the function chosen. "Blue tooth on" "sound cancellation on" etc. Just brushing past the side of the headphones with your arm to scratch your head will activate something. It is absolutely impossible to use the headphones in bed or in an armchair to listen to stuff unless you sit or lie perfectly straight and still. Roll your head to the side and something will get activated, put your hand up to support the side of your head and something will get activated. This basically makes it unusable for me despite the great features and sound. It is just too annoying to be interrupted every few minutes by an accidental press on the side (which in may cases disconnects you from the game, movie, music or phonecall you are on), l If only they had placed the controls better, like on the edge and recessed the buttons so that they can't get accidentally pressed, this would be a great headset.
