Customers are pleased with the R3 DSP Long Range Radar and Laser Detector, particularly its impressive range, performance comparable to the R7, and comprehensive radar detection capabilities. Many find it accurate and easy to use, especially considering the price. While false alarms are a concern for some, the device's GPS functionality and other features are appreciated, and the display is easy to read. The size is also seen as an improvement over the R7.

Uniden R3 Review – Outstanding Performance and Pea

I recently purchased the Uniden R3, and I couldn’t be more impressed. Right out of the box, the build quality feels solid and professional. Setup was simple, and the intuitive interface made it easy to customize to my preferences.
What really stands out is the incredible range and accuracy. The R3 gives me plenty of advanced warning, especially on highways, and it filters out false alerts better than any detector I’ve used before. The GPS lockouts are a game changer—I can drive through areas with frequent false signals (like automatic doors) without being bombarded by alerts.
The voice alerts and OLED display are crisp and easy to understand, even in bright daylight. It also stays firmly mounted and discreet, which is a nice bonus for keeping a clean windshield setup.
Overall, the Uniden R3 gives me a huge sense of confidence while driving. It’s easily one of the best investments I’ve made for my car. Highly recommended for anyone who wants top-tier protection without the premium price tag of other models.

Best Radar Detector for the Price

Favorite radar detector at this price range. For $299 you literally cannot beat it. For anyone who is first time buying my recommendation to you is keep all bands on and use it for a little while. You’ll come to find out which bands your local departments use. I’ve come to figure out my local and state department only really use Ka bands. I keep K and X bands off to minimize false alerts while driving through the city. Now whenever it goes off there is a 95% chance there is actually a cop. It has saved me many times. Highly recommend!

A very reliable midrange high sensitivity radar detector for city and extremely long highway range! Stealthy and can peek around corners and the other side of hills and canyons! I'm extremely satisfied with the overall performance of this radar detector! It's a very affordable radar detector for the average income customer!

I wanted a radar detector that could pick up on primarily KA band + Laser, since K band is hardly used where I live and work. I also didn't want to spend more than $250. But I kept reading reviews saying that the R3 is the best bang-for-the-buck and is definitely worth the extra $50-75 compared to name-brand budget detectors.
I'll admit, for the first week or two, I was skeptical. LOTS of K band false alerts, especially around town. It turns out that the R3 needs a lot of its settings to be fine-tuned. A must-use feature is its Mute Memory, which uses GPS to auto-mute things like automatic door openers at grocery stores and car washes.
I still get very consistent false alerts from driving near newer Mazda CX-5 SUVs, likely due to that vehicle's dual-frequency BSM system. I'm still trying to find a good combination of settings to reduce those false alerts.
So, why the 5 stars? Because all of the fine-tuning is absolutely worth it. My Uniden R3 has picked up on both Laser and KA band flawlessly. Not a single false alert when either of those alerts go off. Not only that, but I've had my R3 has pick up on KA band over 3 miles away! I was astounded.
Are there better detectors out there? Sure. But the Uniden R3 isn't supposed to be the best. It's the best bang-for-the-buck. Nothing else comes close.

Best cost effective radar detector out there

For a cost effective Radar Detector, this should be option 1. I ended up buying r3 SE so i can get a few more k blocks, and honestly where I am I can probably disable K band completely. It's definitely an investment, but it also definitely pays itself off. Catches KA from far away, is very customizable, and can be as quiet/loud as you need. 10/10

After having a cordless detector for 15 years, I'm still having adjustment issues with wires. On the other hand, this detector is excellent in detection, distance, stealth, and much more compared to my old cordless with much less false alarms. The detector has a good price for what it offers. Spending $800 for a new state of the art, top of the line detector to help avoid a $200 ticket, to me, doesn't make a lot of horse sense when this one is not all that far away. My issue for 4 vs. 5 stars is the cord and window attachment. The cord is very inflexible on the ends; therefore, does not look good and the cup quality is not great. A better cord and attachment would make it 5 stars. I can see me having a custom installation done to get rid of most of the mess and distraction. Still looking for a comparable quality cordless with similar features - unfortunately they do not exist

Im not a speeder... or a racecar driver but I will hint that this has saved me a few times! Its range and customizability is amazing especially for the price! This is perfect for the speed racers and the regular drivers that just want a little reminder when there is a police in the area or using a radar gun. Sometimes it can be easy to accidently go a little to fast when on long road trips so when this goes off its a awesome reminder to slow down. So many options and I love that i can switch to just KA Band and not get every alert while driving it has been 100% accurate for me living in california.

I have been looking at radar detectors for just over a year now and knew that I wanted the Uniden brand because of their long-distance radar ability. I decided not to get the R7 only because of the difference in cost and in the rural area that I live the pointing arrow directions were not that important to me. I know that the R7 has a few other features that the R3 doesn’t but the R3 will fulfill all of my needs and then some for years to come. At just under $300 I felt the value was there. The product is easy to use, nice looking and comes with two different window mounts.

I have had many detectors, this one is the best I’ve ever had. I hope they add directional arrows for the next model. This one has a better range and more accuracy than detectors that cost upwards of $500

I bought this in 2024, and i've had my R3 for about a year and a half now. When I say this is the BEST investment I've ever done- I MEAN IT!! This thing has saved me from SO many speeding tickets. There's also a newer generation (R4) is also avail at a similar price point with some hardware tweaks- so look at that. Also I recommend buying a seperate extension cord to run the wire behind your car panels so you won't have a dangly wire in your face or a tell tale to cops that says "I have a Radar!"

I purchased this to use on a long road trip from SC to FL and back. I drove around 1,000 miles with this detector and it did a great job alerting me to police radar. Definitely saved me a few times. The only negative is the detector will get set off by Honda minivans but there are settings to minimize the false alerts. There are actually a ton of settings. Takes some time to learn them all. This detector is expensive but you get what you pay for.

After going through many forums and YouTube videos of different radars, it all boiled down to pretty much one radar that shone above the rest. Uniden has risen to outperform what’s been the standard go to radars such as the Valentine One or the Passports and all for a very reasonable price. The range on this thing is a truly insane and I can tell it’ll put ease of mind while driving on highways. Unless you need directional arrows like the R7 has, this is the way to go.

This is hands down one of the best radar detectors on the market that I have purchased. I have owned a few from inexpensive to more expensive than this unit and I fully recommend this one. Has saved me several times from being pulled over. I am a general contractor and drive over 1500 miles a week so for me it’s a life and time saver

It is a truly great unit for the price. I've had passengers tell me that the distance for detection of radars is better than their own, more expensive radar detector. The only minus is the lock out feature for stray radar signals needs to be improved as some times it forgets.

If you're in the market for a reliable laser radar detector that won't break the bank, look no further! I recently got my hands on one and let me tell you, it's been a game changer. Not only does it come at a great price, but it performs flawlessly and has saved me from getting a speeding ticket a few times already.
One thing I really appreciate about this detector is the minimal interference with other signals. It doesn't pick up false alerts, which can be a common annoyance with other models. When it beeps, you can be confident that there's a legitimate radar signal present.
Overall, I highly recommend this laser radar detector for anyone wanting to stay within the speed limit while on the road. It's easy to use, reliable, and won't break the bank. Get one for yourself and see the difference it can make!

I have been a big fan and supporter of uniden. I own the R3, R7, and R8. For an entry level stand point and ultimate range the R3 is great. The negative is uniden is knonw to be a more noisy radar however this does improve with the R7, and R8. My R3 has had zero issues. If you are in the market and looking for an evtry level radar with great capabilities the R3 is simply the best
