Started grinding after a year of normal use. Performance also seems degraded. Will keep it in my system til it dies but definitely not getting another one.

Although the product was well packaged and was received with no visible damage, the drive was defective. The drive would not initialize (error code = 45) due to an I/O error which was determined to be bad sectors. I started a surface scan of the disk using my partition software. The first 25 sectors scanned were ALL bad. I aborted the scan at that point. The drive was returned to Best Buy without any trouble. This is the first WD Black drive I have had an issue with. I own 5 black drives (3 HDD and 2 NVMe) that have performed flawlessly. I am disappointed with WD's quality control and their support web site was of little value.

Item was defective right out of the box, and because i didn't open it right away it was to late to return it, so my experience was horrible !!

Have ssd system and wanted to use this as media storage. It wouldnt initialize. I was able to see it on PC but never use. I did t bother to replace with another.

I bought one and it was defective out of the box. Exchanged for another one and same thing.

Slow and overpriced, had windows 11 on this hard drive with 64gb ddr5, 12 series i9 and it still took 5 minutes to boot.

Did not give good rating due to the fact I could not get them to format. I purchased two previously at Wal-Mart. Same issue. They all would partition MBR or GPT but none would format with Windows 10 64-Bit Pro 20h2. Either a Windows flaw or a HDD issue with WD Black . I have had no issues with Seagate Baracuda, nor have I had issues with other Western Digital drives in the past including use on Windows 10 or 11.

Used to use a standard HDD that was 5400 rpm for my game drive. This operates at 7200 rpm and its night and day different. A must for gamers.

Such a horrible overall experience. Good luck trying to get this drive initialized. I am returning. Tried everything, just does not want to work. Even its own software "Acronis" fails to initialize. Just bad, I wish I could get more money back when I return it. What a waste of time!

I had purchased the WD Black Gaming 4TB Internal SATA Hard Drive to expand my storage on my recently purchase HP Omen 40L gaming desktop PC and upon installing, I find out that it is defective (i.e. bad disk). Going to return to Best Buy and hopefully get an exchange or refund even if its store credit.

Please dont buy this, go with the seagate barracuda, this hard drive is a brick.

Love this hard drive. Now I know I should have gotten the 10 terabyte hard drive.

This was a faulty drive-I just took it to a computer place in Kennewick, and he said it was no good out of the box, but evidently it's too late to return it, and it has not even been a month since I purchased it. I'll be calling the manufacturer-hopefully they will replace it

I guess it would be a good drive if it would show up on my computer. It shows up when it wants. I'm a professional photographer and was going to use this drive to store my photos. But this is not a feasible option considering I can't be confident that it will show up in my drives. Really wish I could take this piece of garbage back. I will never buy another one again!

Went to install the drive and has I/O error. Found out after 4 hours of trouble shooting the problem it has bad sectors on it. Always have had great luck with WD Black hard drives so hopefully it’s just a bad unit.

It didn’t work. I bought it a while back and it was defective from the moment we tried it. We took it out to get repaired but it was still broken. What’s more, Best Buy has a 15 day return policy that insists you return to the manufacturer after that limited time frame. It was such a hassle. Would not recommend.

Had tons of bad sectors, returned it for refund. Won't buy WD products again
