Dead on arrival. Unfortunately due to the shortage of computer parts recently I wasn't able to test for nearly a month after purchase. Not sure what to do with a dead drive just sitting here.

    Very loud

This hard drive is very loud approximately every minute there is a distinct thump that could be heard and felt in the desk. After googling this is a "Feature" that makes the drive last longer. when it is running hard it sounds like a pot of boiling water roaring. Its fast and may be good for a data center or home server but definitely not your personal PC

Loud Drive, HORRIBLE Warranty, Deceptive Tactics

I know you might be skeptical about this 1 star review but I am only writing it because I hope the reader will not make the same mistake that I did. This is not a rant but rather I am trying to make the best out of an absolutely horrible experience with this drive and company. Yes, the drive is fast for a traditional spinning platter hard drive but that is where the benefits stops. 1. It is absolutely not extra durable. If you dig deeper into real tech reviews you will unearth concerns.; 2. The drive is and has been documented by many trusted technology professionals to be one of the loudest unlike some of the competing brands like Seagate and such.; 3. It WILL not last. Their drive has failed twice now in less than 2 years! ALL of my data was lost on the drive but I was lucky because I made a clone of the drive a short while ago because I became concerned about its reliability. All of my family pictures and such would have been permanently lost if it were not for my clone backup.; 4 If you have to return the drive within their “warranty” period, be warned you will be so utterly frustrated and infuriated because they just don’t stand behind their product. They seem to try to find any excuse why your drive is not eligible. Furthermore, their return system and process seems be purposely designed to be so confusing and difficult that they probably count on the customer giving up. Lastly, their support staff speak very poor English and seem to struggle to understand basic sentences.; 5. If you are tenacious and continue with the return process you will eventually and definitely get NOT a new drive but rather a REFURBISHED drive that is an essentially a Frankenstein drive made up of various used and refurbished parts. That is their official policy and procedure if you get into the fine print. You will not get a new drive but they make it sound like you will if you don’t read the fine print. It’s totally deceptive and shady. [DO NOT BUY THIS DRIVE] or believe the hype. I am an advanced computer user who has been fixing, building and updating computers for over 30 years. You of course have the right to ignore this review and chalk it up as one bad experience, but, consider the possibility that it might not be. Do you want to take the risk of losing ALL of your family photos, videos, music and more? Is that a risk you are willing to take? Most people would say no. The worst part about this drive is that you paid considerably extra for a drive when you would have been just as good and likely better spending less on another WD drive (e.g., Blue) or another brand. I will never buy a WD drive again for myself or for any of my clients.

Wanted more heft in the SATA HDD part of my new "beast" PC. This was just the improvement I wanted and super easy to get setup and running.

    Good Drive - Bad Luck

I bought two 4TB WD drives and one was dead on arrival. Had to drive twenty miles to get an exchange. And that was a gamble, because you can't call the store to verify that they have an item. On several occasions I have gone to a store to purchase an item that online said that they have only to find out there were none.

128GB cache version on Amazon, same price.

This harddrive should be much cheaper at Best Buy since Amazon sells the 256MB cache 4TB Black drive version for the same price, with twice the cache!

    Stuck with a brick

Bought this 2 weeks ago for a crashed system. Drive was bad out of the box so I had buy another one. Once my system was up I tried to return to Best Buy for a refund but was past the 14 days so I'm stuck with a $167 dollar brick.
