I believe that WD always has quality drives. Very low failure rates.

So grateful to Geek Squad for troubleshooting and repairing and replacing this hard drive .

The drive packaging was very good and came with the usual set of screws and instructions. Since it's a standard SATA drive, no special set up or jumpers needed to be set. You just install it and go.

Make sure your operating system is not to old to support the extra data. This was great but our desktop wouldn't support it.

Good hard drive for the average computer. Go with the black series if you use your PC as a media or file server.

These were used to backup drives going into a new pc.

I purchased, and had installed, this new hard drive because I got the message that my old one had a fatal error. I had all of my information backed up but this new hard drive does not want to recognize it. Even the Geek Squad has not been able to recover it all from the external hard drive. In addition, the new hard drive can not find/ will not recognize any of the other hardware or software. I have all the disks etc and still am not able to get the computer to talk to anything except the monitor (printers, scanner, programs that are downloaded but will not run) Geek squad is at a loss as well.

The included cloning software partitioned the new drive equally between two drives on the old hard drive which was partitioned about 90/10 and there was no way to change it except to delete the original small partition from the new drive, expand the original c:drive, create a new d: drive slightly larger than the old small drive and copy the old partition to the new drive. In addition without know this the new drive uses 4K Sectors where the old drive used 256 I think. The result was that using Windows Vista it completely broke windows update and I haven't found a way to recover from that.

Gave renewed life to my 6yr old computer, but, still have other issues. Will bring computer back for further check-up. Feel I will get a few more years out this computer.

Typical W/D hard drive, very dependable. Have had several W/D h/d's in the past in all my builds and never a failure.

This drive is good for any home use, even light gaming rigs. 1 TB has become the standard size drive for most users today.
