I got this one to replace a Seagate hybrid drive that failed. I'm using this for my main boot drive, the hybrid speeds were inconsistent, which messed with my game and video streaming performance. This Western Digital drive has a lower peak speed rating, but is able to maintain that speed, and doesn't slow down on long sustained data bursts like video processing or heavy graphics games. This is also a 3.5" drive as apposed to the 2.5". The smaller drive couldn't handle the heat my desktop machine produced when one of my 3 case fans failed. (I replaced the fan as well) There are 5 other drives in this case, all larger Western Digitals, they all handled this temporary heat problem fine.

I bought this drive to revive an older machine that I use for producing cds. It installed easily and works just as I expected it to. I have used it now for a couple of months with no problems.

It is a good value as a replacement drive. The software from Western Digital that allowed you to clone the drive is excellent. Easy to use.

    Solid all rounder HDD

For HDDs I tell anyone who asks just get a Western digital. The mainstream is a 7200rpm blue which is a great allrounder HDD. I have been using the 2x I own for playing 90s-2015 era AAA games and indie games with hardly any load times. I suggest a WD black drive if you want to play games with longer load times. The WD Mainstream drives are a beast and should last 5+ years without any issue. Just make sure you get the 7200rpm one if you want to use these for gaming. Western Digital makes a 5400rpm version as well to check the spec.

I was updating an old computer and installing this hard drive as a second drive for storage. When I upgraded Windows the original hard drive crashed and died . The WD 1TB became the main drive. The old drive never was as quiet or as fast as the new one. Now if it will last 8 years like the old one remains to be seen

I'd been loyal to Seagate for years, but they hit a real rough spot in terms of reliability starting in 2014 thanks to environmental problems in their Thailand factory. Last month, both of my Seagate 1TB drives in my RAID1 array failed within a few weeks of each other and that was enough for me to say never again and go with a different brand. Note that I did put this in a Synology NAS. Western Digital recommends the "Red" line for this, which I assume has a longer MTBF. So while this drive may fail a bit sooner than ideal, thanks to having RAID1 w/ cheap cloud backup to Amazon S3 I'm not too concerned about that. At $40 for a TB, the price is right.

Bought this for my son to upgrade his current hard drive. Very easy to switch out and with the program they give you a link to you can clone the current one without losing anything.

Purchased three of this model. Hard Drives have come a long way from the old clicky clackety drive of the past. Serves my purpose. Very quiet and smooth install even for a 65 year old man.

I have had this hard drive for over a month. I've been using it on a linux machine. Installation was pretty easy and I haven't had any problems. I would recommend this hard drive for either home or business usage.

What can I say, it’s a hard drive. I needed an additional drive to store music on and this fits the bill. Installion is pretty straight forward, nothing new or exciting going on.

After about 5 weeks of using this hard drive for my data it's been working perfectly and reliably. Although still fast, I'm still getting used to this "slower" hard drive, as I use an SSD drive for my OS, which is much faster - and just as affordable. I still prefer a SATA drive primarily because I've gone thru hundreds of hard drives and before they die, the SATA makes a "clicking" sound, so that you can at least prepare a backup of your data. On the other hand, SSD drives tend to just fail - and there's nothing you can do about it.

I do a lot of photo editing on my Mac Pro, so all my internal drives, except this one, are 7200 rpm. I use this one for a Windows partition, and find that it is quiet and more than fast enough.

The Geek Squad was so helpful explaining all they were going to do to clean my computer after some serious virus trouble! While they were working, they let me know the Hard Drive needed to be replaced (it was old) and that they could replace it for a very reasonable cost. My computer now works great! I am very happy with all they did.

My iMac hard drive died, getting inside was not easy but once opened I was able to install the new drive without a problem. The trick is opening the iMac which voids your warranty. Since I was out of warranty... Hey what did I have to lose... check out installation videos on YouTube and go for it. Just be careful with all the little wires. Also there is a heat sensor on the old drive you need to gently pry and re-attach it to the new drive.. the Geek squad gave me bad info, saying I didn't need it, but if you don't use it your system cooling fan will run all the time and eventually burn out. Bad Geek Squad! Had to reopen again and attach the sensor, double work! But after that fan stopped running and all is good again!

Bought this drive for a family members machine to replace an aging 5400 rpm drive. Having gotten used to SSD speeds, I had forgotten that moving from 5400 to this drive's 7200 rpm is still a considerable upgrade in speed. This is a good option for anyone needing terabyte storage but who doesn't require SSD level performance .
