I'm using this in a repurposed computer being used as a media server. I've used it for several weeks now and it works flawlessly. I've actually never had a problem with a Western Digital mechanical hard drive whether it be a blue label or a black label.

When building computers, I only trust Western Digital or Seagate and this was a good sale price. Needed to upgrade from 2TB to 4TB. Mounting was easy as case had slot for the extra drive space for temporary setup for the transfer. The worst aspect was the software as there are no instructions or video and some of the "next" was confusing because you didn.t know what it was going to do. Always had a fear that the partition/format wound occur on the wrong drive and erase my 2TB drive being updated That would have been a disaster. My setup is and SSD that holds programs, and the 2TB harddrive that holds data - music, video,, photo, documents. First mistake I made was choosing "custom" setup rather than automatic. Went through everything but only partitioned and setup equal to the original drive, 2TB leaving the excess unformated and inaccessable. Started over using automatic settings, holding breath that didn't erase/format the 2TB drive. The other unspoken instruction was the need to go back agterwards and re-name the drive. The original 2TB was d: drive and the new 4TB had to be the next unassigned, or G: in this case. When complete and removing the D: drive, Windows could not recognize the files now located on G: drive. When D: was fully removed, launched the software and changed G: to D:.

I use these drives for backup purposes. I am a video editor and need to backup projects with lots of media and I need to do it redundantly. So once I archive a project, there are two copies in case one fails. These drives are not the fastest at 5400 rpm, but they are good enough for backup and are a good value for the price. I've been using them for a couple of years and I haven't had one fail yet. I recently purchased two more of them. I use them externally on a 2 drive dock connected to iMac or Macbook pro.

I bought this western digital hard drive because they hold up pretty well. I have not had many drives fail. This is a great value for a 4tb hard drive.

Pros: Good price. Read and write speeds are good. Cons: It's a bit noisier than other hard drives. In order for a Windows 10 PC to recognize it I had to go into "disk management" and format through there. It did not appear under My PC along with the other drives until I formatted and added the drive through disk management

5400rpm not as slow as it sounds

Don't lock yourself into the "5400rpm = slow" conventional wisdom. On a large capacity drive like this, more and smaller bits are more tightly packed on the platters. The bits still fly by the read/write heads at considerable speed. It's similar to DVD-ROM discs reading and writing faster than a CD-ROM, even at much slower rotation speeds.
