Thankfully it was still within the exchange period so I got a new one, it's worked well ever since.

This Western Digital drive is loud! I had one ten years ago on an old PC and that was loud too. Wish I'd bought the Seagate alternative.

Failed after one week, WD RMA process worked well.

I used the Western Digital RMA process to return the drive and get a replacement drive, which was fairly painless. This replacement drive works as expeced providing me needed drive space.

Dead on arrival, now 2nd failure

When I opened my computer, I discovered that what I bought was the exact same model. So, my experience is that a) the first one lasted about 2 years, but crashed my computer requiring clean re-install of Windows (a day wasted there), and b) now the replacement was dead out of the box. The BIOS would not even recognize its existence (after multiple tries trying multiple ports and cords). Summary: Cheap, but not reliable enough for my world.
