UX is really poor on this item. It prompts downloading multiple apps/programs to use and is easy to mess up. The locking feature works well, once you figure it out, much like most of the rest of it.

This passport for a beginner is great because it was already set up for my computer I just had to rename it because I had another external hard drive -very easy to use.

Great and excellent item, easy connects to Mac or PC

VERY DISAPPOINTED The slot for the connector moves around and continually disconnects and therefore makes it hard to work on photographs that are housed on the drive. Very annoying. And now they say I can't send it back. A complete waste of money. I have always had good luck with WD hard drives, but I bought this after two other drives (one old, and one only 5 months old) died. This is the last straw and will be the last WD product I buy.

Worked up until I was using Final Cut Pro and photoshop at the same time and the drive crashed.

Has issues now and then with iMAC 10.14. I then have to eject it and plug it into a different USB port. That works but is a pain.

No issues with this hard drive, have never had one crash on me or anything.

Whats to to love? High capacity, sleek and fast. boom.

I am going to try to get another one after I returned it because files kept showing up corrupted.

Was not what I thought it’s not a sold state drive. When it powers up the disk makes sound. Why would you ever make anything but solid state drive. Was hard to setup

Purchased the 4.0 TB My Passport Ultra to serve as extra backup storage for my Mac Time Machine. Unfortunately, after almost three weeks I have been getting the same message that "[the unit] still waiting to make first backup" in so many words.] In the meantime my Mac Time Machine has made and stored a backup almost daily to the Time Machine Tower, and to two other WD drives which are used for the same purpose--additional backup of my Time Machine. Have tried several restores of software on the Passport Ultra, no luck. Have tried to find an explanation on the Web for a "fix". Have tried several suggestions but no luck. My MacBookPro is running MacOS Catalina 10.15.6.

The WD Passport had a lot of problems it seemed, accessing it and trying to encrypt it. I found out that a lot of their programs and add-ons are un-needed after an apple tech told me about it. The only encryption needed is the time machine one.

I got this to use for my TimeMachine backups on my brand new 2019 Macbook Pro. It will connect and backup to it once, but it won't backup more than once in a row. I have to eject the drive and reconnect to get it to backup more than once. Very frustrating.

was great for a while but eventually it died. lost a lot of my work.

They sent me the wrong product. It was supposed to be for windows

The backup failed after 1 year, even though the WD warranty states 3 years parts and labor they would not honor it. They require the warranty request to be submitted on a letter with a government letterhead or a company letterhead, if purchased for personal they do not honor their warranty.

Doesn’t connect to Mac easily with direct plug making the device not seen.

I thought this passport would be easier to export photos. The reason I got it was because I have so many photos. Takes hours to download.

The hard drive disconnects abruptly and then it stops working stating 'Disconnected without Eject'. I have to run full diagnostics to start it again.

I've now tried two units, neither of which will work reliably with Mojave. I tried to work through the problem with WD tech support but they were not much help. Instructed me to reformat to HFS+, which is the same as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). The unit arrives formatted like that. Anyways, if it works for you, congratulations. I'm taking this back to Best Buy and trying another company.
