Customers are saying

Customers often highlight the excellent wash quality, ease of use, and capacity of this 3.8 Cu. Ft. High Efficiency Top Load Washer. Many appreciate its performance and find it a great value for the price. However, some customers note that the washer can be quite loud and that the spin cycle may be a concern for some users. The presence of an agitator is a positive feature for many buyers.

Bought the whirlpool a year ago on Sept. 4,23. Today Sept. 7 ,24 it literally stopped working last time it washed the lights went off and the motor continued as if it were running. Disconnected it and when it was connected again and pushed on button it simply does not move although the motor makes noise as if it is on . Water does not fill up anymore . Still looks brand new …Just not functioning. Was washing good , looks good but I can’t give a good review. What to do ????

Had it less than 2 years. I have had to fight with it to get it to start from day 1. Now it buzzes & refuses to start. Have power cycled it, done the reset procedures all to no avail. I have purchased one of the few, if not the only, analog machines on the market. No computer. No sensors. Can't wait!

    Important advice

Later in this review there is some important advice regarding this or any HE washer. This is my first HE washer, and prior to purchasing this unit I was aware that HE machines function differently than older machines. Some quirks to get used to were the different noises it makes, and the longer cycle times, both of which are characteristic of HE machines in comparison to older machines. That said, this machine does vibrate more than I would like. The tub is very “wobbly” and it is sensitive to any imbalance in the load. I compensate for this by operating it on the Light soil level setting to reduce the spin speed, but this results in less water being removed during the spin cycle. Now for the important part. While the washer fills with water, it will do so in spurts (fill, stop, fill, stop etc) and it can make a loud thumping noise while doing so. The included instructions mention that there are new noises which are supposed to be normal, so I didn’t think much of this at first. However, while in another area of the house I noticed a thumping noise behind the wall, which was the plumbing in my house was being jolted in response to the washer filling up. I felt that this could not be good for the plumbing, and did some research. As it turns out, this is called “water hammer” and is common with HE machines. It is caused by the machine closing off the incoming water supply very rapidly, which sends a shock through the plumbing system. Over time this can weaken plumbing joints and damage other appliances. However, this can be easily prevented by installing a device called a “water hammer arrestor” on both the hot and cold water intakes, which will absorb the shock. Some homes have preventive devices preinstalled in the plumbing and therefore this is not an issue. But if you experience loud thuds while the washer is filling, then I highly recommend installing water hammer arrestors. They are inexpensive, easy to install, and available at most home centers. Just remember to purchase two of them, one for each water intake. Overall, the machine cleans well, and I’m glad I made a point of installing water hammer arrestors. My main complaint with this washer is the vibration during spin, as well as the loud noises, especially during the rinse cycle. Other than that, it’s an okay machine for the price.

After replacing 2 Insignia washers under warranty, I asked to go with this Whirlpool instead. I really like this machine, but I must say, it's pretty noisy and not as stable during spin cycles as other machines I've had. That said, I like the way it agitates the clothes. Not too harsh. Also, the automatic water level is usually perfect. The deep water works nicely, too (but it doesn't fill the tub. It just ads to the next level.) And I like the various rinse options. There are plenty of cycle options that make this a nice choice. What I don't like it that during spin cycles, the drum will start banging against the walls of the machine until it gets enough gyro force that it eventually balances. Plus, when washing bulky items, you really need to balance the load carefully, or the washer will struggle to spin. And when that happens, it will extend the cycle as it attempts to re-balance by adding water and agitating a bit to redistribute the load. The only other thing I'm not thrilled with is the long fill-up time. But all-in-all, my family's clothes come out clean!

Have had the washer for a month and am happy overall with the purchase. I let the machine sense for the amount of water; I don't open the lid once it's started (as per the instructions). I haven't let it sense how much the load of clothes is "soiled", I just choose Normal wash. So far I've been happy with how it cleans the clothes. Each load takes a little over an hour, whether large or small, which is quite a bit longer than my old Kenmore, but I've heard that's how the High Efficiency models work. It's also kinda loud, but it's in the basement so it's not really disturbing me. It's a good washing machine.

Me & my wife recently bought this washer to replace an old non-HE washer that lasted about 13 years. We do a lot of laundry and needed a washer that didn’t break the bank. We hooked it up two days ago. We were careful to ensure that it was level as it states in the setup instructions. We have run it almost non-stop yesterday and today. It is quiet and gets our clothes super clean. I read some other reviews that stated this model made noises and was generally not so quiet but ours has been very quiet. I checked a couple of times to make sure it was running. I really, really like my new Whirlpool washer. It was easy to hookup and easy to use. It seems to be a solidly built machine. Yes, it has various settings but if you use the right one for what you’re washing, the clothes come out as they should. I would recommend this model to others. While I’ve only had it a couple of days, I am hopeful that it will provide years of good service. Also, it’s really easy to get online and register your washer with whirlpool. They also offer extended warranties through their website when you register (they are optional). I will try to update this review next year after I’ve had the machine for a while.

I was a little skeptical buying this washing machine considering the last one from this brand clunked out on me. However, due to wanting the washer & dryer to match, I pulled the trigger. Im glad I did. I love this machine! Its efficient, gets the job done well, and the price was affordable. If you are on the fence, dont be. Just purchase it. You'll love it too!! Note: It was a learning curve. Read the instructions lol. Happy washing!!

The washer gets the job done. It's convenient that it senses the load vs having to guess which size is appropriate for the load we have. The only negative thing is that it makes this weird banging noise when it's running. Not quite sure what it is, but our clothes are coming out clean and it has not damaged anything around it.

    Needed a washing machine

I needed a washing machine because mine went out. I bought it during 4th of July sales. I do not know too much about washing machines, but I like it so far. For me, as long it washes, I'm good. When I first hooked the washer up and started it I thought the machine was broken. It made some noise I'm not used to hearing from a washing machine, almost like a alarm clock. Once I looked it up and read what other people have stated I was like "Ok that is normal for this machine". Also this machine takes a little bit longer to finish it cycles than other washing machines I have used in the past. This machine seems to wash my clothes a lot cleaner than other machines I have owned and used. it does it with less water than other washing machines I have used. Also it is a lot more quiet than any washing machine I have used. I gave it a four and not a five because I have found other washing machines with a bigger cubic size bigger and cheaper than what I paid. Also it takes a little bit longer than other washers I have used. Overall I do recommend this washing machine.

I've had my new washer for a month now. It's the best. works well, gets out most stains out with one wash, those it doesn't are very set in or needs more soaking. The service in the store was good. (Helps that I came in knowing what I wanted having shopped online.) The delivery service was fantastic. They took off the basement door for me so they could get the washer downstairs, then put it back when they were done. They also took the old washer away to be recycled. They didn't even scuff my wood floors while moving heavy washers around. I would buy this item again from Best Buy!

Looked for a basic washing machine with a few cycle options and water temp. options. Nothing is that simple anymore...but I found this Whirlpool one of the most basic to meet my needs and budget. Did some online research and this was the best bang for my buck with the best reviews. Many people complained about the noise. What noise? I can't hear it at all until I go into the laundry room. Very quiet operation, including the spin cycle, and love the bigger capacity than my old machine..even though this is a smaller capacity compared to what is out there. It has a few more bells and whistles than I need, and I'm not crazy about the new Auto sensing feature for water levels that are on pretty much every new machine, but I just choose the deep water option to ensure there is enough water for my liking. Only had the machine a week, so no issues yet.

    Great inexpensive top-loader washer

This washer is great - was inexpensive - has nice capacity - fairly quick and quiet cycles - we researched and chose the model with the agitator since everything said it was a little rougher on your clothes, but does a better job cleaning - chose top-loader since we had a front-loader once and while those are nice and fit more, they are like the top-loader model with the impeller - I don't think they wash quite as well - plus, the front-loaders are known to get "musty" smelling eventually (our old one did and there was no easy way to clean it or keep it clean) - easy to use controls - recommended

We've had Whirlpool products (or derivative Roper) for years. The washer and dryer we replaced were Roper and were still in working order but after almost 20 years (and two washer repairs that I was able to do myself) we decided on a new pair and this is the washer we bought. It looks good and seems to work well. My concern is the water level. First, it does take longer to fill than the old washer because of the "stop, start" sensor. I'm used to more water in the tub, not just roughly 6" deep for a moderate load which is what the "Auto Sensing" puts in. Even with the "Deep Wash" mode I don't think the water level rises very high and while my water bill may see a reduction, I'd like to think that my laundry is getting the full benefit of being cleaned as well as the old machine. It is quieter and spins out more quietly than the old one. I'm almost tempted to throw a few buckets of water in the tub once it starts washing but don't want to "upset" the brain inside the machine. I want to like this machine and for now, the jury is still out on this one.

I have had this washer for about a month. I replaced a 1993 Kenmore toploader. I find this washer very quiet as compared to my old standard washer and very efficient. I had to read about the different cycles and usage and I still haven't used it in all modes. I like the fact that you can easily stop it at any time and open the lid. The water usage is very low compared to my old washer, but it does use enough to do a good job even in the most efficient modes. It is a more simple model, but that is what I like about it. I have been very pleased with it so far. The only complaint I have is understanding all the different modes. The customer website is very poor in this regard. They need to make a simple video for each model and then demonstrate how to use each setting. It is hard to believe that this is not available. My only complaint is that I have to learn to use it mostly by trial and error. The lack of detailed instructions and the very poor web site are the only reason I did not rate it 5 stars.

So far, so good. The 3.8 cu ft Whirlpool was delivered 3/9/24 and the 10 loads washed in less than a month have been a step up from the 3.2 cu ft Whirlpool we had for 23 years. Good job with clothes, coats, blankets, and shower curtain. We hope the machine will last.

Yes this machine might be a bit off-putting at first depending on what you're coming from. The frequent on and off filling and gear changing in the cycle just adds more noise and takes some getting used to. Once I was past that, I've learned to love the machine and think it works very soundly for the price. It has a nice big drum for my needs and gets my clothes nice and clean. I have noticed a couple of damages to my items, but this can happen with any agitator washer so I'm not chalking it up to the engineering yet. I paid $430 for it at the time of purchase and can't see any reason to not consider it worth that amount. Solid unit so far.
