Customers are saying

Customers regard the 4.0 Health and Fitness Tracker's sleep tracking, battery life, and comfort as its most valuable features, with many praising the accuracy of its data and the user-friendly app. However, some customers express concerns about the cost of the subscription and the lack of a screen and built-in GPS. The device's lightweight design and convenient charging method also receive positive feedback. Overall, the product's strengths lie in its comprehensive health data and comfortable wearability, while its subscription model and limited features are potential drawbacks.

This band is made to be worn over night for sleep tracking, unfortunately it would cut off my circulation and wake me up in the middle of the night. I have a friend who had the same issue with it cutting off circulation.

I purchased this and never even opened it. I heard some bad things such as how long it takes to unlock certain metrics. And seeing as it’s a subscription based unit, it feels like a scam to get people to continue with a subscription to get the full value of it.

In a world where fitness tracking has more and more of a focus, especially in the wearables market, look no further then the Whoop 4.0. The Whoop 4.0 provides some of the best data driven analytics based off of sleep, daily heart rate, skin temperature, respiratory rate, blood oxygen, RHR, HRV and so on. Now, you might ask, why is all of this data so important and I why do I need it? Well let me give you background context first. I am not an athlete, I occasionally do cardio (3x a week) and I wanted to use the Whoop to understand my body. I wanted a fitness tracker that does more then what every other tracker does. I didn't want to just track my HR, I wanted to analyze myself. If I had a poor nights sleep, had a glass or two of alcohol, too much coffee, worked out too hard, etc, I wanted to understand how I can improve and not just think about it. The whoop has helped with that in every single way. Wearing the whoop 24/7 affords constant analytics and also has increased my sleep. During the night the whoop takes constant readings and gives you your respiratory rate, blood oxygen, RHR, HRV, Skin temperature, how much time you were awake, in light sleep, in deep sleep in REM. Not only does it give you this information in the form of numbers and graphs but it explains to you your restorative sleep and uses an algorithm to determine how much daily strain you can endure for whatever the day might bring you. The whoop also allows you to use pre selected journal entry points, especially for things you would never think of and uses those in the algorithm to see how it positively or negatively impacts your HR, etc. For instance, if a dog or a cat sleep with you in bed, alcohol, Covid-19 symptoms, consumption of dairy, intermittent fasting, work video calls, hydration, etc. It is extremely comfortable and you don't know you are even wearing it. Whoop also sells different band options that look very nice and sleep. In my 30 days of ownership I have actually convinced two other people (an ultraman fanatic and a casual workout fan) to purchase the device. In just 30 days of wearing this device, it has not only done what other fitness tracking brands don't do but it seriously changed how I go about my day and care for my body. It is more then a tracker but it is a mindset to better your body, and I am using it as my guide.

I love the tech and the app. Used it daily for 90 days straight. But then it stopped syncing and the customer support was abysmal. Felt like a Kafka novel. Been a week and still nothing from Whoop. Totally unacceptable customer support, particularly given I'm paying a subscription service. Looking at other options now but be aware that if you buy this product you will be on your own if things ever go wrong.

I've been using the whoop band for a few days now and it is constantly stuck on syncing. Data from the previous day has been "catching up" (app parlance for syncing" for a good 12 hours. I attempted the troubleshooting steps which involve rebooting, unpairing, and re-pairing to no avail. Will return for a refund.

The Whoop 4.0 Wearable Fitness Coach is an improvement in technology and reduction in size from its predecessor the 3.0. Bringing technology and fitness together in a unique way, Whoop isn't a fitness watch, but rather a fitness partner to help you gain insight and results in your journey. Offering up to 5 days of battery life, the Whoop 4.0 allows you to wear it all day and night to ensure you are getting the most data for your reference. Know how much strain you are putting on your system during a workout or just at work, learn about your sleep patterns and get notified when you need to head to bed for optimal recovery. I found the Whoop 4.0 to be a nice alternative to my typical fitness watch which required charging every night and I miss out on my sleep cycle data. The Whoop never misses a beat when it comes to my sleep and schedule. I did find the app to be a bit overwhelming to use and a bit underwhelming on the user experience, thus my 4-star review. Trying to navigate to the right slide/level of the data is a bit frustrating and I found quicker answers on the website over the app. PROS - Whoop's technology, innovation, and fitness awareness - Design and comfort for all day/night wear - Easy, adjustable band for any type of work out or sport activity - Long-lasting battery life for several days of use between charges - App and website access to data CONS - I am not a big fan of the app as compared to other fitness brands. It could be made better and quick access to data.

The Whoop 4.0 health and fitness tracker is a difficult device to form opinions about. On one hand it is very targeted, and the features are focused on some particular health tracking data/metrics. On the other hand, the price and the needed subscription make this a device where I had to make a lot of deliberation. TL;DR: This is not the common health tracker for everyone, and all the details (features and limitations) need to be researched in a thorough manner before purchase. Compared to “most” fitness trackers, Whoop does not have any display. That immediately limited usage of this a lot - the other comparable devices, in this form factor (i.e. wrist-mounted), have some form of information display (time, step count, etc) that make them easy to wear for everyday universal use. Furthermore, there’s no option to get notification from my smartphone. This works as a double-edged sword - on the one hand this gets rid of distractions and lets me focus on my activity, but on the other hand, I had to rely on another wearable device for notifications on the go. For me, it was not the end of the world, but certainly a limitation to work around all the time. I know for a lot of people this is a deal-breaker. Without the “burden” of a screen and even a button, the Whoop presents itself as a very simple, easy to wear, comfortable device, which I got used to rather quickly. The included knitted band is easy to adjust. After I got used to the way to buckle/unbuckle it, I have been literally wearing it 24/7 (except when charging). I had no issue wearing it while sleeping or while working (in oily/muddy circumstances). The body is waterproof, as well as light weight, and I can clean it with a damp cloth or cleaning wipes when needed. As for charging, I got a battery pack that can be charged via USB-C, which in turn charges the tracker wireless (after sliding it over it). The external battery pack is small and not heavy, but unlike what Whoop says/shows in promo material, I didn’t find it comfortable wearing the battery pack on top of my tracker on my wrist. It took away all the positive things I mentioned about comfort and made me more aware of the Whoop tracker than other times. I typically opted for charging it while not wearing it. The battery pack can barely charge the tracker 1 time, which was a big limitation in my eyes, and the LEDs are not very easy to read when charging. There’s almost no way I could figure out whether it’s charged 100% or not. I always had to open up the companion app on my phone to get more info, and for that that’s a big annoyance. As for the companion app, I had mixed feelings. The app layout is not the most cluttered out there, but also not easy to read. I needed a few days to go through the learning curve (compounded by the fact that it needed 4-7 days to get all data calibrated), and had to look up terms and other stuff on the website to get a better understanding. I don’t believe a lot of people will get turned away from this, and hopefully Whoop will improve the onboarding process. In the app the data is typically spread into Strain, Recovery, and Sleep. Sleep data is required for both the Recovery, and Sleep to be computed. As for health monitoring, the heart rate, respiratory rate, blood oxygen level (SpO2), heart rate variability, and the skin temperature data are analyzed. The app lets me look at those on a weekly, monthly, etc. scale. Based on all these, a recovery score is given everyday, as well some suggestions from the sleep couch to suggest bed times, etc. Also, an activity monitor can be started anytime before I set out for a run, biking, etc. The activity options available are not limited, but I have seen other wearables support more comprehensive lists. Whoop was able to track all my common workouts automatically and gave me a calorie burn estimate. However, I was not able to check my low-level activity in good detail (i.e. number steps or distance traveled through-out the day). In essence, I had a small list of tracking data, which are comprehensive in themselves, but sometimes lacked the bigger picture I’m used with my other trackers. Also, this is by no means a replacement for dedicated outdoorsy activity since it lacks GPS/native location data. In summary, Whoop does a limited set of functions in a well-rounded manner, and does not try to replace a “smart-watch”. It has a focused set of capabilities that are more suitable for people who are more interested in data that Whoop supports. Also, the need for subscription (which is not cheap) is a big road-block for wide adoption. As such, I’d suggest doing enough research before deciding to pick this up. For me, I’m still using it for the comfort and health data I’m getting. But given that all smart-watches are integrating all these features in more comfortable packages, I worry it’ll get replaced pretty soon.
