Big data in a small package and an easy to use app
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Setting up the app and getting signed up was simple and took just a few minutes. The device itself is lightweight and fits like a watch, slim and I hardly notice it is there. The battery pack for charging is a big help also, since I don’t need to remove the Whoop to get it charged up and I don’t have to mess around with a USB cord or charging cord as often either. I haven’t swapped bands, but I did check out the slider system with the band I like and it was easy to connect and disconnect. I haven’t purchased any of the ‘any-wear’ clothing, but that would the next step so that I don’t have the device on my wrist all of the time. Recovery after exercise or labor can be hard to track and even harder to evaluate given changing routines and exercises over the course of a week or month. The ability to get a base line number from the Whoop and relate this to how I am feeling on a given day as well as how the next workout goes has been huge. The device tracks and the app displays the results. Heart rate, temperature, SPO2, breathing rate, and others are tracked and used to calculate recovery quality and give a live snapshot as well. So, this comes in handy during or post work out. This has allowed me to modify my workouts and my days off easily and confidently. I have been able to adjust my sleep schedule and stick to it more easily by using the data in the app. I can get daily reports on duration and quality of sleep and this has helped to build a nightly routine.

The best health tracking has gotten even better
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been very impressed with this new Whoop health tracker, as I have never had one before. It seems to be more accurate overall than most watches or fitness trackers. It includes very extensive sleep, rest, and recovery stats to help you track your overall energy levels. It is nice to see, visually, how you are sleeping day to day, or week to week. It has helped me make adjustments to my sleep schedule, and I have been feeling a lot more refreshed since I started wearing it. I appreciate the external wireless charging puck that lets me charge my Whoop while wearing it. It is super convenient to pop the charger on while watching tv or relaxing, then I am good to go for another 3-5 days. The battery life seems to fluctuate a bit between charges, but a solid 3-4 days between charges can be expected pretty easily. The phone app is easy to use and provides a ton of detail on my sleep scores and recovery. It is much more accurate than other sleep trackers I have used in the past, and seems to be almost spot on with when I actually fall asleep and wake up. Overall I highly recommend this new Whoop for anyone interested in improving your sleep and overall health.

Potentially Useful Supplemental Tool
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Whoop 4.0 Health & Fitness tracker is a really interesting concept & tool. A 24/7 tracker to track both your exercise & physical output as well as your body's ability to recover and heal. Context: I'm a relatively fit runner & cyclist, staying active with training pretty much year round for various events that include marathons, ultramarathons, charity bike rides, etc.. More aging, top Age Group finisher than winner of most events. I've got multiple GPS, fitness, sleep tracking devices that cover my daily needs. The promise of the Whoop 4.0 was to let me see even deeper into how my training & recovery are (or aren't) working together to help me achieve my goals. From the start, the fit and finish of the device is solid. The band is comfortable for everyday 24/7 wear. I always wear a watch, so the Whoop is on my other wrist constantly and after a couple days, I barely realize it's there. The device stays charged for 4-5+ days and the novel charging system allows it to be charged while on your arm; I usually charge it when needed during the day as I sit and work. My only thought on the wearing of the device is that the band is a fabricy, synthetic mix. It does get wet and feels weird, damp sometimes. If I've just worked out and shower, I'll leave it on to make sure it gets cleaned as well, otherwise I will take it off for showering so it stays dry. When you first start wearing the band, it takes a few days to "calibrate". I really like the way Whoop set up the "Levels" for users to encourage and incentivize continuous wear. Most of the levels are based on the number of "Recoveries" that a user has logged. A "Recovery" is a night's sleep. There are levels at 1,4,7,14,21,30,40,50,65, and so on. Given that more data means more ability to dial in what your "normal" looks like, the effort to be consistent in wearing the device seems key. Once wearing the device, the claim is that the device will auto-recognize activities in order to calculate your "Daily Strain" score. I have found that the Whoop will correctly identify high-intensity activities- e.g. running, HIIT session. Lower intensity activities require informing Whoop after the fact that you did something; this has included more casual bike rides, weightlifting, etc. The app & interface are super easy & make this simple, but the literature seemed to indicate that this wouldn't be required. On the app, the interface is really good. When I wake up in the morning, there's a brief survey about how my night went, what activities I may have engaged in that impacted my "Recovery". The survey is personalized early in set-up- mine asks me about the impact of eating too late, how time I spent outside, how annoying the cat may have been, etc.. There are also post-workout/activity surveys regarding how you felt, whether you were able to finish what you intended, etc. As you continue to wear the device, the tool produces weekly & monthly reports that provide summaries of consistency, progress and ideas for improvement. I just got my first monthly report this morning and it was interesting. It points out that my bedtimes are all over the map as is the effectiveness of my sleep. I've known all along that the Whoop would tell me that my sleeping sucks; I was right, and now have some ideas on how to improve. I actually still feel that I'm early in the learning curve on how the Whoop may help me. I'm not overwhelmed in these early days with its usefulness, but super intrigued & ready for more. If I can, I'll provide an update.

Recovery matters
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This band is for serious trackers. I've used Fitbits, halo bands, smart watches, etc for tracking my progress. They've all had their strengths, but at the end of the day, they all still felt like a product for general fitness usage. While the Whoop can fall into that category, it feels much more indepth. I've been using it for a little over a month now and here's a few notable characteristics. Tracking- for a wrist tracker, I'm impressed. With most of the wrist wearables I have used, they're always is a point of heart rate drop off when doing anything that involves grip or rapid movements. Some, will even drop when you get to higher heart rates. This was one of the main reasons why I always transition to chest strap monitors. With this band, in comparison to my chest strap, there were very few drop-offs. For a wrist wearable this is very impressive. I don't know if they have proprietary technology, but it has been far and above the rest of the risk wearables I have used. When it comes to automatic workout tracking, it has detected my workouts about 80% of the time. It misses them when I'm in the 60 to 70% heart rate range. It does allow you to go back and fill in the workout, and calculate the results, but you have to keep on top of it in case you don't get an alert that is tracking. Still, this has been much better than the smart watches I've used in the past. Battery- on average, I track workouts twice a day and they range from 30 minutes to 2 hours. With this type of continual usage, I usually get 2-3 days before I have to charge. This is on par with some of the other wearables I have used. The game changer here, is the portable battery. This is such a great concept, I'm not sure why others have an adapted to this. Because you usually have to take off the wearable to charge it, it's usually an inopportune time or you miss out on your sleep or some type of daily metric. But with this battery, you keep it charged up, you pop it right on and you're good to go. I usually put it on to sleep at night and it's all charged up by the morning. No reason to take it off. That's how it should be for an all-time wearable. Fit and band- the band itself is very comfortable and flexible. The material is breathable and most importantly, stays in place. Getting the right fit is tricky, but once you do, you often forget that it's there. Unfortunately, one factor that is inevitable is the sweat smell factor. Whoop recommends you hand wash your band two to three times a week to keep the smell away. Even when done consistently, they're still comes a point where the smell just starts to permeate. They don't recommend you wash particular parts, but if you take it apart, it seems as though it can be machine washed. I thought this material could help combat that issue, but still no clear winter on that. The tracker itself is easily cleanable and unlike other trackers I've used in the past I have very little irritation where the readers are working. More often than not, even when I keep the area cleaned I often get dryness and itchiness. So far, it has only happened once, and once I figured out my cleaning regimen, it stopped. Once again very comfortable, and no irritation. Metrics- here is the bread and butter of the whoop band. The measurable metrics include respiratory rate, skin temperature, blood oxygen, hrv, resting heart rate, recovery, strain and general calories. Let me start with the measurement that has the most variability of error, the calories. Am I comparison, I used it against the myzone switch tracker. In all of my dieting and building trials, the numbers from the my zone have been the most effective at garnering results. Therefore, they've been my pseudo gold standard. When it comes to the whoop band, the calorie recording is usually within 10-20% of the my zone metric. Not bad, but with all the other metrics being so specific, a little more in depth calorie monitoring would be appreciated. What I will say is that for the maximum heart rate, there is no way to test your specific reading. So once you enter your data, it's specifically uses a substandard for people within your age range. My maximum heart rate is higher than my typical age range. My my zone band detected this Within 30 days, and made an automatic correction. Unfortunately, this attention to detail is missing in woop. Hopefully, some sort of test can be instituted later to get an actual maximum heart rate which may help fix the adjustment on the calorie monitoring. You can enter your own maximum heart rate, but I haven't tested that out yet to see if that makes up the difference in my calories. Just an FYI that like most bands, calories have to be taken with a grain of salt and catered. As for the other metrics, this is where the Sirius tracking comes in. When I was getting ill, I noticed a drop in my performance. When I looked at the app, it showed my skin temperature was raised and my recovery was not sufficient. This is literally Hands-On understanding of why I may not be performing at Peak level. Once the illness passed, skin temperature went back to normal and my HPV went back to a normal range as well. Once again, I'm not sure if they have proprietary technology that they're using, but I have yet to see this level of detail in metrics relating to my actual performance. While we're on the subject of recovery, it's been pretty much on par. The days that I can get adequate recovery, I actually do feel better going through my sessions. The days where my recovery is inadequate, there are certain exercises that I perform well at but my overall longevity and endurance takes a hit. The recovery is measured by several factors and the whoop app gives you plenty of insight as to how you can increase it. This is a much-needed Insight that I never knew I wanted. This helps me to tailor my workouts to get the most of my sessions. Another great factor and a testament to their service, you can get principal metric sheets to hand to your Physicians or anyone else that may find the metrics useful. You'll also get a monthly recap that lets you see your goals and how you're measuring up. The last I'll touch on is the strain. They measure strain by several different factors according to your workout and your past workouts. This is similar to completing the Rings in an Apple Watch but much more efficient in calculating gains. Go over your strain your overreaching with great recovery by their calculations you'll see improvement. It's a nice metric to keep you in tuned and pushing for improvement. Great feature. App- the app is top notch. No crashes, no slowdowns, great layout and all the information you need at your fingertips. Including workout management, and work out recording. If you allow your notifications, you will get great Insight on your sleep, your workouts, your recordings, and any other features that the app deems important for you to know. Usually I turn off applications, but I find these to be very useful in my day today life. The only wish list that I would have for the app concerns the journal. The journal is literally just a checklist of questions to help keep you on track. One of them pertains to carbohydrates tracking and calorie tracking. For an app you're paying for, it would be nice to have some sort of food tracking mechanism built in. It's asking a lot, but I feel that it's a simple additive to make it an all-in-one source so I don't have to go elsewhere to track my actual calories. For now it's literally just a yes or no check box. Unfortunately I don't find myself using the journal because there aren't any in-depth tools that I can use to keep me coming back to it. Other than that the app is very intuitive and I do find myself coming back to it often just to keep up with my metrics and measurements. I can see that they cut no corners in the presentation of the package that they are presenting. In conclusion, this is a great band for professionals and novices alike. The metrics are useful and actually will help you push along to getting better. Some bands merely just throw numbers to try to keep you motivated, I feel the whoop band presents actual data that will serve many facets of your fitness. I have been wearing mine non-stop for little over a month, and I don't see myself taking it off for the near future. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for an extra tool to help get them along in their fitness.

Fitness Wearable Alternative
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like many things about this Whoop 4.0 wearable health and fitness coach device. But, the cost of their yearly app subscription, is rather pricey for what is offered. Setup was easy. Firstly, download the Whoop app to your phone. Next, charge the square battery which will clip onto your Whoop, to recharge the device while you're wearing it (a novel idea). Then, follow the guided directions in the app to create an account, and continue setting up your Whoop. The Whoop's wristband is so soft! I really don't mind wearing it all day (and night) long. While the Whoop device itself is made of metal, it's not bulky or heavy. Even with the battery "pack" clipped on for recharging, the Whoop isn't cumbersome. I can say that having this Whoop has already motivated me to get back into my daily fitness routine. While I do have fitness apps on my phone which are connected to my smart watch, this Whoop supplements and complements what I already have available to motivate me. Being able to see my sleep patterns is ever so helpful to me. This is something I'm always striving to work on improving, as getting optimal rest affects many other aspects of overall health. Other key features, which my other health and fitness apps don't show in quite the same way, is detailing your 'Strain' and 'Recovery' statuses. It is beneficial to know and make use of that info, to be able to see what is and isn't working for me, in order to try and reach my health and fitness goals. Another feature I kinda like is being able to join a community of other Whoop users, or a "Team." Which is basically just a way to track your progress against other people based on what you've chosen to be part of, such as by - country, age group, sporting interest, health condition, etc. I've joined 10 teams, and it sorta makes me feel connected to other people around the world who are also using the Whoop wearable. Now, would I recommend this Whoop 4.0 health and fitness wearable device? Yes, but with reservations. After the initial one-year coaching membership included with purchase, the yearly renewable subscription cost seems overpriced, when there are so many other viable options for health and fitness trackers.

Good fitness & health tracker
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've never owned a fitness tracker, but I'm familiar with them because several friends have them. The Whoop 4.0 is a little different than some other devices because it's not a watch and doesn't have a display. All of your interactions with it are through your phone, so be aware of that in case that's not what you want. When I first received the Whoop I had an older phone (about a five year old Android). I had a new phone on order, just hadn't received it yet. I set up the Whoop on my old phone just to see how it worked. The Whoop seemed to work fine, but took a long time syncing up with my phone. I'm not one of those people who has their phone on their person 24/7, so whenever I'd be back in Bluetooth range the Whoop would have trouble syncing. As soon as I received my new Android phone, all connection problems disappeared. Now as soon as I walk into Bluetooth range, the phone immediately notifies me that it's synced up with the Whoop, especially first thing in the morning, when it downloads your sleep information. The Whoop tracks your biometric information (respiration, heart rate, skin temperature, blood oxygen level) and your sleep cycles (how long you're awake in bed, how much light sleep, deep sleep and REM sleep). To me that's the most important information, it lets you monitor how well you're sleeping and how your general health is. The Whoop also tracks "strain," which is the amount of exertion you have on a day-to-day basis. It couples that with your average heart rate and calories burned to give you an idea of your activity level in normal daily life. The flip side of the "strain" information is "recovery," which lets you know how you're body is recovering from the strain by getting good sleep, etc. The Whoop also lets you track "activities" such as exercise. I'm not an athlete of any sort, so I don't have much use for this feature. You can set an alarm with the Whoop. On your phone with the Whoop app, you can set it to either let the Whoop wake you when it feels your sleep cycle is ready for you to wake, or you can set a specific time. The Whoop will vibrate on your arm until you tap it twice. If you're a very heavy sleeper I don't know that it would wake you up, but for most people it would probably be fine. There are various online communities and support groups you can connect with, for people that like to share fitness information and get encouragement. The Whoop lets you export your health information, in case you want to track it or share it with a medical professional. The one area I think is excessive is the monthly or annual membership fee. The fee is $24 or $30 a month (depending whether you pay annually or monthly). If you let your membership lapse, the Whoop won't upload information to your account. I think the Whoop is good for serious athletes or people that really need to monitor their health, but not for casual users.

Excellent tool to improve health
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Whoop 4.0 device and its app was a bit intimidating at first, and took a couple weeks of constant use to learn and get used to, but wow was it worth it. The amount of information I now have about my body at my fingertips is mind boggling. Right out of the box, the device charged very quickly and synced up with my phone while it was charging. I had zero issues getting it to connect to my phone, and in the 30 days I have been using it, it has not disconnected once. I really love that this fitness tracker does not have a screen on it, making it not a replacement for my galaxy watch, but an additional tool to know more about my body and my daily routine/activity. Besides that, since there is not a screen to worry about, I can wear it at times when I take my galaxy watch off for fear of damaging it. This device is very durable, I wore it through several days of yard work and projects on our property, it got hit a few times and it does not even show it. I’ve gotten chemicals on the band by accident and it didn't even phase it. I also regularly wipe it down with a sanitising cloth and that does not seem to phase it either. I was a little worried about how rugged this fitness tracker would be but after a month, I am no longer concerned. At first the app was a bit confusing, the scaling and numbers that it uses threw me off, maybe I just missed a guide about it, but I eventually got used to it. My favourite feature has to be the sleep feature, I check it everyday and it seems very accurate when comparing to how I feel I slept. It's also very eye opening to see how poor my sleep habits are and makes me more conscious to do better, especially with the notification reminders. I also noticed the strain detection is legit, I’ve had it happen a couple times now where about a 20 minutes after I get home from work, I get a notification that my strain that day was a bit higher than usual, and when I think about my work day that day, yes it was a more stressful and exhausting day than normal, it is crazy that it can detect that. I believe I read that this device automatically detects activities such as walking or working out but so far it has not done that for me, I just am manually telling it I am about to start an activity and go from there. Overall, this fitness coach and app is great for just about everyone, especially someone who is serious about becoming healthier and being more in tune with their body, this is a great tool to get there and I have to recommend it.

This is such a neat "gadget"!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Whoop 4.0 is probably one of the coolest fitness gadgets I've ever seen. I am not a fitness "fanatic/guru" and seldom workout but this device makes it very evident that I should (without shaming me). It shows me ways that I can improve my health with simple activities and provides me with the results of those activities. It also tracks how many calories I've burned during the day so I can decide how much exercise I need to take care of that "extra helping" or dessert. It automatically tracks my activities but also has the ability to start/stop/record an activity. Something as simple as a walk can be recorded and provide a visual map of your route. It's really neat to see what I've done and the info helps encourage me to keep it up. Overall, it measures sleep, recovery, and strain. I'm not sure how it calculated my initial "optimal sleep" goal nor do I see a way to change it, but I like the way it shows me how much sleep I need to recover, perform, or get by. Most people I know wake up/go to sleep depending on their schedule and don't get to choose how much sleep they need on a daily basis. However, it's really helpful to see how much I should get/need. I've never tracked my 4 sleep stages (awake, light sleep, deep sleep, and REM) but it's very interesting to see how they are recorded. I can definitely tell the difference in the morning when these numbers vary. It also makes me aware of my "awake" time which is something I never knew anything about. I really enjoy following my sleep info and how close I can get to a 100% night! The recovery function provides info on my body's status - Green lets me know I've recovered and am ready to go. Yellow indicates I'm maintaining my health and can still handle my upcoming day. Red indicates my body is working hard trying to recover. The strain function monitors heart rate 24/7 and records the mental and physical strain you're putting on your body - light, moderate, high, or over-reaching. It shows you how your daily strain leads to the need for required sleep/recovery. The Whoop 4.0 is super-lightweight and comfortable. It's waterproof and designed to be worn 24/7. Although it is designed not to have a screen (and I knew it didn't), I wish it did. I'm one of those people who still wear a watch and I'd gladly replace my watch if my Whoop had a screen! Other than that I love my Whoop!

Improvement since Sept 2024 - July 2025
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought WHOOP back in Sept 2024 and can say that it has dramatically improved since then (July 2025). Insights have improved to include much more, but the most important for me are the menstrual cycle insights. I wouldn't re-subscribe if it didn't have cycle insights. For those who struggle with sleep... it can be hard to see insights into how poorly you are sleeping. It led to more insomnia for my partner and he no longer wears it. Favorite: tracks all the time, even when 2 weeks international without service/wifi. +insights to menstrual cycle. Least favorite: steps and gps tracking during a simple walk are wildly inaccurate, but I use it more for the overall health insight.

WHOOP 4.0
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been aware of WHOOP devices for a year or so, and finally decided it was time to get one. I have used several other trackers in the past and had problems with battery life, water resistance, or both with every device I have tried. The packaging for this was very unique, as the box did not consist of nothing but right angles. It might not be a big deal for all, but it was for me. The packaging was simple as well. There wasn't much to unwrap at all. I installed the app on my phone, put the WHOOP on my wrist, synced the device to my phone, and it was ready to go after setting up my account. I did have to set up a payment method for the service, even though I am starting off with a free trial. While I did need to go through some tutorials that day, I couldn't go through all of them until I had been wearing it for at least 7 nights. I like this method, because learning over time works better for most people. When other devices want you to know everything right away, it is too easy to start skipping through the tutorials after a couple of minutes, and that is prevented here. I have now worn my WHOOP for 40 days. While I am not getting a full recovery every night, I have many more recovery nights now than I did when I first started wearing it. The app makes it much more simple to keep track of my sleep habits, and compares that to the stress I have put myself through in the course of the day to determine my recovery. My self-awareness has greatly increased, and this proves that sleep has a large impact on my overall health. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to make a change in their sleeping habits, as this works much better than a simple journal.

Perfect fitness analyzer, needs more integration.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First time hearing about the WHOOP and am pleasantly satisfied with the overall experience. The band is comfortable and lightweight for all day wear, giving the device the best potential to read my vitals. The tracker in the band is waterPROOF, wear it in the shower or doing dishes and it will be fine. The included battery charger that you can wear on the band is ALSO waterPROOF! Speaking of battery life, it has about 4-5 days of life before it needs to be charged. I feel like that could've been improved to at least 7 full days, but I guess it depends on bluetooth usage. The app is the most impressive in terms of data analysis. Not only does it track your sleep and log your exercises, it gives you a summary with charts as to how you can improve you sleep health and how to recover properly after a workout. The device tunes in to your body and after a week or so of 24/7 wear, it starts to compare to your previous weeks and note patterns of consistency. Keep yourself accountable, or team up online with other users to have outside support and encouragement. There is a membership you have to pay for to access these features, like $20/month, and it's definitely worth it! I already feel more accomplished viewing my daily progress and it motivates me to be consistently active and healthy. Some features that it's lacking include having proper app integration to fitness apps like google fit. Even though it can track the calories you burned (based on height, weight, and gender), it doesn't have a place to log in calories from the food you eat. In addition you can't log in weight changes, but these discrepancies are minor nit picks.

Whoop yourself into shape!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have used fitness wearables of some sort off and on for about 6 years or so. It makes sense that using the Whoop Health and Fitness Tracker would serve as a seamless transition, and it did, for the most part. Pulling it out of the box, my initial impressions were pretty ho-hum. It’s a band with a durable synthetic strap and a small unit designed to sit on top of your wrist. There is a charging device that’s wireless, a cable, and that’s it. Whoop has alternate band and clasp colors that you can order to customize your look, but you will have to order them from their site. As with all fitness trackers, you must charge it and sync it to your phone. This is where it got a little interesting for me. Charging the device requires you to slide the wireless charger over the wrist unit with the clamp closed. I really didn’t feel the quick start guide Whoop included was very helpful. There were instructions presented in the app that helped. The charger is designed to be worn while continuing activities, day-to-day, or what have you. That’s great, but it seems to only hold a single charge – that means a single re-charge. Once charged and paired, you must create a Whoop profile and subscribe to their service. The fitness device is free, with the service subscription. The Whoop band is designed to be worn at all times. It stands up pretty well to the elements, sweat, and a light beating. You are instructed to wear the band somewhat tightly just above the knob of your wrist. I encourage you to occasionally clean the Whoop and the contact area to prevent a rash. What I find helps most is not only cleaning the area, but also ensuring it is well moisturized, but this could be an issue for some. The app is very well put together and focuses on primarily on exercise and sleep. For exercise, it looks at activity, strain, and recovery. For sleep, the focus is on necessary sleep, overall sleep time, sleep stages, and respiratory activity. I would say the Whoop would be geared more toward an athlete or someone with a more active/adventurous lifestyle but can be useful to someone with a very busy day-to-day schedule. The app is one of the best I’ve seen based on look, feel, and data, but while it is strong in the details, there are certain simple things that are not there. For example, sometimes, I just want to see my resting heart rate at the current moment. It has the option to broadcast the heart rate to devices – maybe a bike computer, other fitness app, etc. I can also see my average heart rate from for each day, but sadly, I have to look at my smart watch or another fitness tracker (or app) to see my current heart rate (resting). How well does it work? The Whoop does a pretty good job of picking up when I start and end an activity, and it is very detailed with relative data. It also creates a pretty useful plan for recovery relative to any activity I perform, as well as looking at my recovery for just living out my day-to-day. It does an excellent job monitoring my sleep, and has proven something I’ve known for a long time – I need more sleep, but I get a lot of REM when I go down. The battery doesn’t last quite as long as I would like, with the most I’ve gotten out of it is about 3 days, but I can see why. It really reports constantly. There is a lot of activity between the Whoop unit and the app. Well, that’s why we have the wireless charger, and it fits the bill. The only thing is it takes thought to keep up with it, make sure it has a charge, and remember to remove it. With the Whoop unit only having a single light to serve as an on-device alert/indicator, it has no other way of giving the user feedback without a secondary device. There are daily journals to help give insight on the why behind your functional fitness summaries, and constant alerts to keep you informed and as proactive as possible with where you are fitness wise. This makes the Whoop quite the attention investment as well. It’s not for the absent minded. If you care, or find the information useful, it’s good and you will adapt. All others will see this as overload. All in all, I like the Whoop, but it’s not for everyone. Those looking for a simplistic approach to monitoring your fitness should look elsewhere. Also, it requires quite the investment – money, time, interest, focus. You are either in or you aren’t. The lack of any on-device feedback can be tough. My battery has died on me a couple of times because sometimes I have notification overload, but I’ve found that all rolls into the investment; adjustments must be made. If you are looking to improve your fitness, sleep, or just staying on top of taking better care of yourself, this thing will help you get it done.

Not impressed
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this to help me with my new exercise and diet. I read up on it and was very interested to measure my sleep vs what I need for my activity. So, I get the...thing... and it takes me 15 minutes to figure out how to clasp it on my wrist. It suggested the non-dominant hand so I moved my apple watch to my right hand. Once I got it on, I kept it on for a full month! I showered with it- no problem and the band never got stinky. I LOVED that I could charge it while wearing it- that is sooo convenient. The instructions said to keep it 1" above the bone on your outer wrist. Um...that is so unnatural that it was really bothering me. Luckily it is light and not cumbersome so it was not that bad. So I get the app on my phone. Interesting. It tells me I need to go to bed by 10:45pm so I can wake up at 9am. Considering I have to be to work by 7:30am, I set my alarm for 5am and it still told me to wake up at 9. I tried everything to change it and magically after 2 weeks it told me to go to bed by 8pm. It would tell me every night that I need to go to bed. And it would tell me in the morning that I did not get enough sleep. The alarm is nice- a gentle vibration on my wrist that lasted for about 30 second. I actually slept through it a couple of times when the dog didn't wake up first. So, the alarm goes off and I start getting notifications. Constant notifications. My sleep graph is ready to look at. My exercise graph is ready to look at. I need to go to bed at 8 pm to get enough sleep. My exercise graph is ready to look at again. My recovery was not enough for my strain. My strain is less they yesterday. Annoying and I could not figure out how to turn only some of them off. Reading everything on my app was omg...seriously too much. It made no sense to me. I am not a super athlete that may want to monitor this- I am just a person that thought it might guide me to get more active by showing me where I was lacking. The last two weeks I turned on my Apple watch sleep monitor to compare. Sorry Whoop but the Apple is much easier to read and understand. The exercise I was getting was also showing up for different calorie amounts between the Apple and the Whoop in My Fitness Pal app as well. Whoop was almost double the amount of calories and when trying to lose weight, I would rather record a lower amount and be under my intake for the day. Anyway, for the average person...I say this is a NO.

Not for everyone so do your research
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a unique and very much a niche product. Unlike most fitness devices, it does not count steps. It does not have GPS built-in. It must be used in connection with the mobile app, and you must subscribe and maintain an active account for it to be of any use. If fact, the device is free, but the subscription is $30 per month, or $25 per month if paid annually. The unit itself has no screen. All information is accessed via the app, and a wealth of information is provided. It has a stretchable band and is to be worn snugly and at least an inch above your wrist. That took a little getting used to, and I had poor readings until I tightened it up. It’s waterproof and has a slide-on wireless charger puck. You charge it when off the device. The idea is that you never have to take the Whoop off. I found the charger a bit fiddly and good for one charge. The Whoop’s battery life struggled to be three days for me. There are sensors that measure heart rate, respiration rate, skin temperature, and blood oxygen levels. From that information, it comes up with strain, recovery, and sleep numbers to guide you. The app also asks you to fill out a daily journal of eating, sleeping, emotional, and general well-being questions. Given all the data processing and synthesizing, the Whoop takes the first week to calibrate to your body, and it takes a full month before all the training and analytics are active. I found the recommendations sometimes puzzling, and the sleep analysis often questionable. With that all said, it’s not aimed at the casual, everyday user. It’s designed to help those who are seriously training and pushing themselves to increase stamina and performance. It’s aimed at high-level workouts and training much more than everyday use. Any good smartwatch will give you more of that everyday information. The bottom line is that if you are in that serious athlete category, the Whoop may be just the thing you want to push yourself and improve. If you’re an everyday user who wants some general health data, there are other less expensive options. In other words, it’s recommended only for those it fits.

Posted .Thank you for your review. We appreciate you calling out many of the key features, specifically the journal. As you mentioned, the journal helps you track and log your daily behaviors like diet, alcohol consumption, stress levels, caffeine intake and more. WHOOP then calculates which habits help or hurt your sleep and recovery most, making it easier to stick with healthy habits. In this way, WHOOP really benefits anyone who is looking to make positive lifestyle changes.

Get to know your body
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have really enjoyed using my Whoop 4.0 in the last month. I tend to be a bit of a data nerd and this thing has upped the game for me. Before I got the Whoop, I was tracking my HR, workouts, sleep, etc., on another device. As soon as I got the Whoop, I realized all the data I was missing or misusing. In January of 2021, I was diagnosed with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). This syndrome gives me much higher heart rates, fatigue, and limits my physical outputs. Before I was diagnosed, I was an avid cyclist and runner and it has been very frustrating trying to figure out my body through this process. It seemingly felt like every day I was doing the same thing but feeling much different. Whoop 4.0 has helped me so much with knowing my own body. I have started connecting those “bad days” to concrete data thanks to Whoop. It helps me to dial in my sleep and recovery so that I do not have nearly as many POTS “bad” days. Before I get into the data and how I have used it, I just wanted to mention that the device is very easy to set up. It automatically connects to your phone once you have downloaded the app, it is small, lightweight, and very comfortable, and the charging device is so easy to use. There is a battery that clips to the device that you can wear while charging it. I usually charge it at night, but could easily wear the rechargeable batter throughout my day. The Whoop App is very user friendly and very simple to use. The Whoop 4.0 device, once it starts to understand your habits and trends, will automatically detect your activities if you don’t start them. There have been several times where I have gone on long hikes or played golf and forgotten to start the device. Inevitably, the device with auto-detect my activity, and I will still get a strain score from that activity so that I can better monitor my recovery. Whoop 4.0 tracks sleep much more accurately than anything I have used to date. I tried not to get too married to the numbers with sleeping. I would wake up, take a while to see how I was feeling, then look at the Whoop recovery and sleep scores. I would rate how I felt on a 0-10 scale and then see what the Whoop gave me as a recovery score. I have become much more aware of how my body is really feeling. It has also offered me the opportunity to know when to take a day off, cut workouts short, or how to recover better for a big strain day the next day. With Whoop 4.0, you not only get a data collecting device, but you are also connecting with other people using the device. You can compare your sleep, recovery, and strain with like-minded individuals. This feature has helped me to keep pushing myself. I follow multiple other athletes, and it is cool to see what they are doing on a daily basis. Another cool feature is that Whoop will send you research driven articles to help you in your pursuit of wholistic, healthy living. Articles on how to sleep better, bed time routines, strain scores for all forms of athletic goals, and much more. They do an awesome job of helping you use the data that you are collecting with the device. I really do not have anything to complain about using Whoop 4.0. If I was pressed to give any critique, it would be battery life. Albeit, with how small and lightweight the device is, the battery life is very good. I usually get about 4-7 days depending on how many extra activities on do during the week. I am use to my smart watch that I have gotten over 2 weeks of battery life with. This seems like comparing apples to oranges, but they both are data collecting devices, and I just wanted to note this for anyone who is looking to purchase. All in all, this device has been wonderful to use. I would recommend it to anyone. From those looking just to get healthier, to top tier athletes trying to get a competitive edge.

Balance!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a BBY employee but have to say WHOOP has done wonders for me and creating balance in my life. The strain calculation (primary metric) gives you line of sight to how ready your body is based on sleep, prior workouts and a whole host of factors to tackle your day. While it doesn’t have a screen nor count steps, this wearable is impressive.
