Customers are saying

Customers consistently note the deep gameplay, touching story, and immersive world of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, often praising the game's music as well. However, some find the voice acting and battle system to be challenging, while others point to occasional performance and resolution issues, particularly in handheld mode. The map's usability is also a source of some frustration for players.

If you like combat systems layered upon combat systems then this is the game for you. Very anime trope heavy but a ton of content.

This is one of the only games my college-age son said he wanted for Christmas. At this high price, I hope he likes it.

This is much better quality than other similar games. However, story is kindly old. I am not a fan of this game.

It's okay, but literally 15 hours in it's still not interesting. Will update the review if it picks up after 20 hours.

The game has been out for more than a year now and it's still too over priced, but it's a good game.

    Excellent JRPG Experience

Before anything, this is a JRPG. If you can't stand the art style or if you don't like to grind (think Final Fantasy X levels), then this game may not be for you. This game is very in-depth, has many secrets, and is pretty grindy. Easy to pick up, but hard to master. The first impressions of the game's battle system initially threw me off. The battle system is an auto attack based system, where your main character continuously attacks in a specific pattern when in combat. The main gimmick is to use your abilities during a specific time or in a specific order to be successful. Again, originally this system seemed boring and stale to me. As you accumulate more abilities and progress through the game, you'll find that the battle system has more to offer than what's on the surface. As for the setting, characters, and story, this game is pretty much summed up as a generic action anime. The setting is interesting, with events taking place on gigantic beings known as Titans who wander a sea of clouds. The main character is fairly bland in terms of personality, most likely just to be a self insert character for the player. Other than that, pretty much the rest of the cast is interesting enough. Colorful personalities and different backstories keep meeting new characters interesting. The interactions between the characters are fun to watch, and sadly some of the more unique characters get too little screen time. Finally, the story. It has some clever twists and turns, but again, it's basically a generic action anime. The writing and dialogue aren't bad. The game does a good enough job to bring you along for the ride while keeping you interested. I do HIGHLY suggest downloading the Japanese voice pack because holy moly the English voice actors are cringey. Overall, if you're on the fence about buying the game and you are a fan of JRPG's, then you should probably just do it. If you can get past the first 10 hours or so of the game, then this is a pretty premium JRPG experience.

This will be an amazing jrpg. The world is more massive than botw and the locations take place on top of flying beasts so itts not one massive land mass, also they are putting more focus on the story this time around.Controls are looking great, switching between weapons is as easy as pressing a button twice.Music looks to be amazing as well as the graphics, combat system,exc.... Im very excited about this game and will be getting it day one! The fact that you can take this with you and play it anywhere is beyond amazing! We live in great times.

    4.5/5 - A Flawed Masterpiece

I'll round up to a 5 since we can't do half stars. The first Xenoblade Chronicles on Wii might be one of my top 10 games ever. It was a near perfect RPG. Because of that I have had massive expectations for the two games that followed it. Chronicles X on Wii U was a good game but it ultimately let me down. This game, while definitely flawed, proved worthy of the legacy of the original for me though. My biggest nitpicks that stop me from giving it a 5-star rating: - performance in handheld is noticeably worse -- but far from unplayable - character animations are occasionally stiff and some character designs are a little too fan-servicey for my liking - voice acting, script, and cutscenes are mostly good but do suffer problems that plague any foreign game/movie: awkward pauses, under/over acted lines, imperfect translation. I expect them but they are still distracting at times. May not be a problem if you are ok with playing in Japanese. I could go on about the good forever but it basically does everything that the first game did well and refines it. The combat is a fun and unique RPG style with tons of customization options. The over-arching story is entertaining with loads of twists and turns. The cast of characters is deep, diverse, and fleshed-out. The soundtrack is unbelievably good. What really got me was the finale though. Everything gets dialed up to 11 over the last third of the game to create an impact that stays with you long after you finish the game. With another solid entry Xenoblade has solidified its spot as one of Nintendo's epic adventure franchises along with the likes of Zelda and Metroid. If you have a Switch, buy this game!
