5More then happy, especially considering the price!
PostedOldPinkyI adore this TV, it is in our bedroom and we got it to replace an 8 year old 32" flat screen, because I could no longer read subtitles without sitting at the foot of the bed (yes my glasses were replaced recently). And the speakers on the TV were creating awful distortion that meant we had to reset the TV every time we used it. There was a bit of back and forth between this one and the LG 42LB5600, as both were going for $350 at time of purchase. But I'm glad we went with this one. We don't use cable and instead we have a PS4 and a Chromecast for streaming. We are definitely big Netflix and Youtube junkies. The best thing about this TV for us is that even though it's 120htz and the PS4 only outputs to 60htz, the TV saves the settings for each input you have, so we never have to adjust our settings between devices. So that way I can have all my movies stream on my chromecast in 120htz while the PS3 never goes above 60htz, eliminating the need to adjust every time we switch inputs to avoid lag, or painful blur during in game panning and other movement. We had planned to get a sound bar, but wanted to test the TV's on-board speakers first, they are more then adequate for our needs, but your mileage may vary, I may still get a bar at a later date but it's not a high priority for me. If we do get a bar, we will need to get some type of riser (our tv is on a long dresser not an entertainment center), the legs(?) for this TV are very low, and even just placing a tube of chapstick upright in front of it will have it edging up into your screen space. One thing to remember, there will be some screen imperfections at this price point, I have dark corners and some clouding/bars on the screen, these generally aren't noticeable unless it's showing something with large blocks of colors lighter then black (grey, slate, white, etc.). This is not considered a defect, more of a necessary evil with low end LED/LCD panels, and are created during the manufacturing process. I would not get bent out of shape over it since you are unlikely to even notice it at all during regular use of the TV. Color representation can be a little over saturated out of the box (copying Samsung I guess?) skin tones especially, mine were on the reddish side, but tweaking the settings was enough to fix it and make things look a bit more true to life. I tested and calibrated the TV using the 3D animated movies Rio 2 and The Croods, as they have a broad color pallet. These movies shine on this TV and I was very impressed Game play was tested using Destiny for the PS4. All in all I'd say this TV is a great buy especially on sale (I purchased mine for $350).

1SHARP 42" CAME INCOMPLETE W/DEFECT
PostedDISAPPOINTEDToday was a horrible day as I had spine surgery a year ago and im part metal cyborg I call it lol (3 spacers, titanium rods and screws) so I spend a lot of time in bed after taking my pain meds watching tv. Well our tv finally after 6 yrs kicked the bucket and we decided we had to get a new tv and upon searching I found this one ( 42" SHARP LED HD FLATSCREEN# It was originally $479 on sale for $349.99 so of course I was thrilled and I sent my husband to go and pick one up........We had already had a bad week having to replace car brakes for over $800 and because of this Geomagnetic Storm we were having today I was in so much pain and without any tv....so my husband who is wonderful to me brings the tv into the house and from the rain slips and hits the floor hard enough for me to hear upstairs, im thinking OMG he dropped the new Tv not realizing it was him hitting the floor. So he brings tv up to our room we notice the box is taped closed #now I noticed it said something in SALE page of this tv that there was an "open box sale" but they charged him FULL PRICE for this tv and we figured this was how the tvs came as some are taped closed...when we opened the box and began our putting the stand on we realized that there was a "manufacture defect" in the designing of the pins that hold the stand onto the tv......one side had a pin half size then all the others and the pieces that were supposed to stabilize the tv on the stand were not in box at all!! So the entire tv leaned forward so much that just a small touch would send it falling to the floor or onto our bed as our tv on large wooden crate#awesome# holds the tv at the bottom of our bed so its like watching a movie in a theatre. So needless to say im very disappointed that these parts were missing and the pins to hold base on were not all even to say the least :# plus the fact the "open box sale" wasn't even mentioned and our box definitely had been re-taped closed as best they could to make it seem brand new. My husband is taking the tv back to the Levittown BEST BUY tomorrow (Sunday# after work and another thing agitating him to have to work on a Sunday. We are hoping that they will do right by what happened as we buy ALL our tablets and cameras and both our laptops came from there as well. I wasn't sure of my husbands rewards ID number or password to put in for login so I had to recreate my own profile ....im just very disappointed in this whole ordeal and hope that returning this tv and getting another one will work out. I told my husband to have them open the box before leaving the store to make sure all the parts are there and workable...but im still wondering about the "open box" issue with our tv being taped closed and they still charged us the entire sale price with missing parts and that manufacture defect in the stand pins. Lets hope that I can write a better review tomorrow after getting our new tv all hooked up and I WILL let you all know how everything goes as I would love to add to the great reviews of this tv, but as of now im very upset and the day we both had I cried missing my Saturday tv shows lol sorry I had to give this a one star but im just not very happy with this entire situation..........DISAPPOINTED *** I put my husbands email in case you would like to get in touch with him since he purchased the tv# And im sorry sincerely to say that I hope you will post this review on your comment review page /hoping you will get in touch possibly with my husband to possibly rectify situation and know better what happened and the FACT the parts were designed incorrectly and pieces missing with box taped shut as professionally as they tried to do as not to seem like it was brought back or "possibly" they didn't know as some products do at times I know have defects or missing pieces....but I will post this on my own FB page if I don't see it on there:( (again im sorry but im very disappointed in such a wonderful store who has never given us issues with all our electronics we purchase here at BEST BUY******

5An excellent inexpensive LED/LCD HD TV
PostedRonBElite Member
This is an inexpensive entry level 42" HD #1080P# LED-LCD TV. This television is very easy to set up. However, it does have at least one quirk. Overall, after calibration, this television has very good picture quality. However, it does need to be calibrated as the preset modes are mostly fairly poor. The best of the worst is the MOVIE mode. So the first thing you want to do, after you get this TV placed where you want it, is to get into the MENU. The first thing I would suggest is to go to the HELP menu and scroll down to POWER ON IN DYNAMIC MODE and change it to OFF. Second thing is probably to go to the SETTINGS menu and scroll to TIME and set the DATE/TIME and the other items. I turned AUTO INPUT SENSING to OFF and changed the INPUT LABELS to names that made sense to me. The menu you will spend the most time in, if you want good picture quality, is the PICTURE menu. I immediately changed the AV MODE to USER. Then, I dropped my calibration disc into my blu-ray player and started the calibration. #Note: You can download and burn a calibration disc for free. It is AVS HD 709. Just search for it and follow the directions to burn a disc. This disc walks you through what to look for when calibrate a TV. Then, you just go to the calibration screens and actually adjust the settings as was described. # This TV has a quirk that you need to be aware of. If you switch the AV MODE to anything other than USER and make a change to the settings, the TV changes the AV MODE to USER and changes the settings in the USER mode to the AV MODE that you were in. This is a real pain if you haven’t written your calibrated USER mode settings down. #Hint: Write down the settings as soon as you finish the calibration!!!# Here are the calibrated settings that I am using. Your settings may differ because every TV are different; even the same brand and model. However, I think you will be able to appreciate the improvement in the overall picture quality using these settings compared to any of the preset modes. Here are my current PICTURE settings -- AV Mode: USER Backlight: 28 Brightness: 44 Contrast: 42 Color: 30 Tint: 0 Sharpness: 30 At the bottom of the PICTURE settings you will see Advanced Settings. Click on the Advanced Settings and make the following changes -- View Mode: WIDE Overscan: OFF Active Backlight: OFF Motion Enhancement: OFF Color Temperature: NORMAL Noise Reduction: OFF Active Contrast: OFF After calibration, I found the black levels for this inexpensive LED/LCD TV to be quite good. Not as good as a plasma or OLED TV, but very acceptable. Also, with these settings, I am very pleased with the natural look of skin tones. My biggest disappointment with this TV is that it has only one combined Component/Composite VIDEO input. However, it does have three HDMI inputs while most TVs in this price range have only two HDMI inputs. On the plus side is that the HDMI 2 input is MHL-enabled so you can connect a ROKU TV box or stick or an Amazon Fire TV box or stick. #I suppose it is about time for me to begin shopping for a more modern AV receiver with HDMI up-conversion and up-scaling capabilities so I don't have to worry about the number of inputs on a TV.# By the way, since I have this TV setup through my AV receiver, I didn’t do much with the SOUND menu. However, in the short time that I was using the TV speakers, I set the SOUND MODE to MOVIE which seemed to give a fuller sound. The TV speakers were okay for TV speakers but I really prefer a full-range surround sound experience. And with the picture that this TV is able to display, it deserves better sound! For the price, I think this is an excellent TV.

5Great value buy
PostedHDTVGEEKMember
Ive had this TV for 2 weeks now and its great! As a current owner of multiple Samsung HD TV's, I needed two non-smart flat screen LED's for entertaining on my outdoor covered screened in patio area and there was no way I was mounting a major brand named tv outside for the obvious reasons, but I didn't want to give up picture quality in the process so I passed on the flashy big names and decided to try this affordable but historically respectable brand in Sharp. I purchased this 42" model and I also bought its 50 inch counter part of this same version since I wanted two matching units. Let me just say out of the box the picture quality rivals my Samsung tvs, and the built in sound surprisingly is great, and far more superior than most I've experienced on a flat screen, which is great since these tvs are outdoors and I needed minimal extras. Both sharp Tv's have wireless genie boxes from direct tv which essentially stream my content wirelessly from the interior main box, so subsequently I've watched both movies and live sporting events on both TV's simutaneously and haven't yet experienced the reported motion blurt issues that two others mentioned in prior reviews so it's possible that it's a cable or Internet data speed issue. I highly recommend this TV and the 50 inch version to any one looking for a quality tv at an affordable price. I forgot to mention that this model is also Roku compatible, meaning you can add smart tv capability by purchasing a Roku USB stick seperately for less than 100 bucks which gives you access to Netflix, Hulu, etc. I hope this review helps.

5Wonderful! Sharp 42" HDTV LC-42LB261U

I am so pleased with the 40" Sharp LED HDTV I bought on Christmas Eve. I had been in a few days before and had looked over the selection with the features I wanted and in my price range. I chose this model because I did not want a smart tv, I was clear that I wanted a 1080p resolution, and I needed a model with a stand that did not spread too wide for my tv table unit. The Sharp filled the bill in every way I wanted, especially after talking with the very helpful service person on the floor at the time. In many ways I was way ahead of the employee in regards to specs, but he filled me in on a couple details I asked about. I could not be happier! This tv is perfect. I am a Roku user, so there is no need for a smart tv - Roku offers so much more - and I didn't want my $$ to go toward the smart feature. The picture is rich, vibrant, flawless. The menu is easy to use via the remote. It didn't take too much setting up...and I almost never have to change any of my settings. At first the remote was a little unresponsive, but I figured it just needed some time to break in. I had to press some buttons a few times at first to get results. That changed gradually, and now that never happens. Tuning takes a few moments when changing channels, but we have gotten used to that and do not consider that any kind of flaw or problem. I read about that before I bought it and so that was not a surprise or let-down. We love this tv! The price I got was fabulous. Then, to my delight, the price was reduced further after Christmas, and I went back and got a price match that lowered it another $50. The customer service was wonderful! This was a wonderful holiday present for the household, and it is one that goes on giving. And, in addition to the warranty that came with it, I purchased a Square Trade warranty for very little that extends it three more years. We're set!

4Mostly OK, but...
PostedzoomnI bought this TV for our bedroom. I wanted as much screen as would fit into our armoire for under $400 and this one fit the bill perfectly. I considered a few TVs, but good clarity off center was paramount for what we needed and alot of models go really gray when viewing from the sides off center. It came down to this TV and the new Sony 39.5", 60hz model. Both were the same price and while I have had great luck with Sonys in the past, I decided to go for the bigger screen and the 120hz refresh rate. Setup was fairly easy requiring minimal adjustments to get the best picture. I prefer a very natural look and that's where this TV falls a bit short. After playing with the settings awhile I ended up reverting back to near factory defaults using the warm overall setting and low motion setting. As noted in other reviews I also found that the low setting on the motion was best suited as it is apparent that Sharp's system is not up to par with Sony in this area. The same is true of getting a natural level of color saturation. Images get almost cartoonish at times, things made only worse when viewing stuff with heavy CGI. It's odd that sometimes it seems to play beautifully and other times it struggles and it is greatly affected by the source material being processed. Overall, it's a good, but not great TV. Honestly, if not for the price paid #on sale for $349#, I would only rate it as average. I almost wonder if the Sony, in spite of the smaller screen and lower refresh rate, would have been a better choice.

2Big disappointment
PostedBricksAndGraniteThe specs of this TV seem great on paper, but in real-world use this TV was a big disappointment. The most grievous problem was color inaccuracy. I spent three days trying to calibrate the color on this TV, and no matter what I did, I could not get neutral or natural colors. Reds were far too intense, resulting in tomato-like skintones. The only way to get the reds down to a normal level was to reduce overall saturation, but this resulted in all the other colors looking flat and washed out. Even then, whites still had a pinkish huge, and blacks looked more like a very dark red/brown. Trying to resolve this issue with the tint control was also futile and resulted in sickly yellow/green skintones. Audio quality was also poor, and I'm not even talking about the built-in speakers. I connected this TV to my powered studio monitors (which sound fabulous with my old Panasonic TV); the audio from the Sharp TV sounded compressed and sibilant. The tone controls (bass/treble) only work with the built-in speakers, rather than the audio output ports, so there's no way to improve the sound quality. Bass and treble were both lacking. The digital tuner was slow, resulting in a pause of several seconds when flipping between channels. There is no way to save your custom image settings between different input devices. This meant that after I spent 20 minutes calibrating the picture for TV mode, I then had to spend another 20 minutes calibrating it for my Blu-Ray player, rather than simply being able to choose a saved custom preset. At one point it completely lost my TV calibration settings for no apparent reason, which was hugely annoying and time consuming to recreate. Viewing angle was very disappointing. The only way to get a somewhat pleasing picture is to sit directly in front of the TV. If you view it from side angles, the picture looks pale and washed out. My old TV was much better in this regard. All in all, just a huge disappointment. Don't be fooled by the fancy specs.

4decided to pull the trigger. It was worth it

I decided to go big on gaming asides from my 27" Samsung sync master. I gone thru two tvs. had a vizio and exchanged it for this. the motion enhancement is a plus on this tv when watching blurays or streaming from Netflix say in my case my gaming console (ps4). I will give some pointers when gaming as when I was on the user interface, I noticed that that some of the edges are clipped. like a bare minimum. I was like gosh do I have to go thru another exchange? I was fiddling with the picture and advanced picture settings. view mode was wide and I was scrolling thru options. didn't help. but then I noticed "overscan" was on. turning it off views everything. glad I got that solved. another thing is motion enhancement may be fine for most 30fps games but it depends. battlefield 4 is a 60fps on my ps4 and there was terrible ghosting on your sights. simply turn off motion enhancement and you're good. anyways I was reading up on reviews and reviews and that this is a best buy brand exclusive. people are calling it a rebranded insignia. Well I think it's an actual Sharp TV. but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I hear that sharp customer service if you call them would redirect you to a best buy customer service line instead for THIS model here. keep in mind these are reviews and forums I'm reading off of but the overall rating is a borderline of 5 stars about. furthermore I did research of other people with the relative past models on YouTube and one fellow gave an update that his TV is still going strong 3 years. I'd hate to have this tv fail but so far after 1 night it's really impressive. all in all I recommend at least a 2 year best buy warranty. I'd say this is a great starter HDTV especially at 120hz
