3d at its best
||Posted .While technically it is not the 1st Russian movie in 3d (apparently there was a 3d film produced in 1941) it is the 1st modern 3d film. No efforts were spared to make this one of the best examples of 3d film making. The 3d aspect of the film was handled by 3ality Technica, one of the Hollywood company at the forefront of 3d technology. In addition, the production values were outstanding, with Stalingrad having been reproduced in exact detail. That being said, the plot and characters were somewhat pedestrian. I have a fairly extensive collection of 3d movies and this is one of the best examples of 3d technology. I rank this up with Avatar and Hugo as what 3d can be. If your home theater has 3d capability, this film will be a great addition to your collection.

SUCKER FOR 3D & WWII Movies
||Posted .I had seen a trailer and saw it was in 3D so it was a must buy. I found it on sale at BB so I picked it up. I was surprised when it started out in modern day. Then it time shifts to WWII. I was expecting it but the 3D and Surround were really great and got involved with the movie. The modern to WWII made you wondering what was happening. It all comes together and I did recommend it to a stranger.

Everything Hollywood Can, so can the Russians!
||Posted .Nothing beats watching the spectacle that this movie is on a giant IMAX 3D screen. Unfortunately, it suffers from overly patriotic tendencies A La Michael Bay movies but the overall feel of this movie is that it entertains. Visually, it's stunning. The costumes, the sets, the cinematography and the 3D effects are all top notch. I hope one day they may do a second one.

Decent Battle Scenes
||Posted .Action scenes were superb! The English overdubbing never should have been added. Hearing the German soldiers speak in German added to the realism. Some of the overdubbed voices sounded like one of my computer war games--Panzers Phase 1. Also, the romance was a bit much, especially for an epic battle such as Stalingrad (same thing holds true for Enemy at the Gate). Too bad the German Stalingrad version 1992 was not made as realistic as this latest version. One last negative--German Tanks--Mark IV were placed on T-54/55s. Being a war buff, that sort of spoiled the realism, but I let it slide.

Good movie for people that like war movies
||Posted .Movie line based on a battle in Stalingrad Russia. A depiction of one of the battles that turned the tide of the second World War against Hitlers Germany. Not the type of movie where you see super soldiers taking out mass numbers of enemy soldiers. Realistic and believable.

Great 3D, definately Russian Story
||Posted .If you like epic Russian novels with all their depressing angst, This movie has all of that plus World War II action and lots of particulate matter flying off the screen into you face. Few movies do the 3D effect this well, but most don't require the mental investment and reading of subtitles that this one does.

Movie was OK
||Posted .I was expecting a front line, in the trenches war movie. There was some action and war violence but it was more about a small group of guys and there interaction with a resident who wouldn't move out of her home. The movie was OK but I was hoping it would have been more of a historical movie about the struggle to keep Stalingrad but it was very realistic in my opinion. I still would recommend this movie even though I gave it 3 stars.

Wonderful Storytelling!
||Posted .A World War II story epic told from a different perspective. Personal stories, action, and quiet moments intricately woven into one big story. Even though the movie runs approximately 131 minutes (short by traditional epic movie running times), it was an adequate amount of time for me to get to know the main characters. Watching "Stalingrad" I felt like I was there in the midst of all that was going on. The superb production and direction resulted in a film that is visually stunning with sound to match. I was drawn into this movie from the first scene and watched intensely until the last scene. The narrative is well done and effective in making the story more personal. "Stalingrad" is much more than a war movie. It is a movie that balances the ugliness of war and selfishness with the beauty of comradeship and self-sacrifice.
