Great after re-installing Windows
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Battery life is 3 hours. I love the clarity of the screen. Touch screen is good too. Don't like the touchpad much, but I mostly use an external mouse anyway. Preinstalled Windows was too slow due to a lot of unnecessary pre-installed programs. I recommend re-installing Windows and installing the drivers from Toshiba website. You can create windows installation media by following the instructions here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media Be sure to download the drivers before doing this, because windows won't be able to access internet without wifi drivers. Things you should know before buying: Fans are on the bottom. No VGA port.

Wonderful computer for a great price!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This computer is great for the price. Plenty of storage, ram, etc. for everyday use. May be a little slower if you're doing a lot of gaming. I personally wanted an ultrabook that could be easily carried around with me. Most ultrabooks were close to $1000 and had small (<500gb) solid state drives. Considering the amount of documents, videos, etc. that I store, those drives would fill up way too fast. This computer however is very lightweight and thin, but still has ample storage. I love everything about this computer!

Luv Me Sum Toshiba
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've always been partial to Toshibas -- in fact, this is the 5th Toshiba laptop I've owned. Their upper lines' superior displays dazzle and their harmon/kardon speakers rock. This E45t-B 4106 Satellite 14-inch i5-5200 is no exception in that regard. I love the responsiveness and feel of the touchscreen. The keyboard is a BIT low profile for us ladies with long nails, but as consolation the backlit keys sure are pretty as we backspace. I prefer my previous Toshiba's glass mousepad, but this brushed aluminum mousepad is perfectly functional -- though the oversensitivity to a swipe from right to left is annoying, but that's a Windows 8.1 problem. In fact, on the whole, Windows 8.1 (which came standard on my purchase) is not ideal, but that's not Toshiba's fault. I don't play games so I don't need super speed; this Satellite works fast and accurately for all my purposes. One complaint is that if/when I do happen to lose my wifi connection, this baby doesn't want to reconnect with any wifi, so I have to restart the whole computer when that happens. Oh well, if that's the worst thing that happens, I'm one lucky lady. Overall, love me my Toshiba!

Great value fill-in for bigger laptop!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My 5 year old Dell laptop went to the shop with no guarantee it was coming back and I wanted to have a quality replacement, either temporary or permanent. And still waiting for Dell to do anything! Was pleased to find something at Best Buy under $600 (not including Geek Squad) that met or exceeded my older laptop specs (i5, 8 GB ram, 1 TB storage, ethernet input etc.). It's smaller with no optical drive (and has Windows 8.1, an adjustment) and with smaller battery (but long life so far) and less sturdy power cord/plug. But has touch screen, backlit keyboard, inexpensive DVD writer I bought separately and seems to work pretty well with all my apps and programs. Definitely much lighter. So far, almost two months in, it seems to work well. Really surprised and pleased!

TOSHIBA EXCELLENT
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really like this computer. I'm a computer tech full-time and my personal laptop - that I've milked along for way too many years - needed to be replaced. I purchased a refurbished laptop through Best Buy's recertification program and I couldn't be happier. Pros: it's thin, it's lightweight, it looks great, it has a good battery life, the sound doesn't suck, the display is crisp, it boots quickly, it runs smooth, the Core i5 CPU is not too shabby, it plays Call of Duty in high settings, after 3 hours of game-play the laptop was not overheated or too hot (CPU temps were amazingly cooler than anticipated), the ports are well placed, the power cord is nice and long, it has a backlit keyboard, it has great storage, and it has 6GB RAM as opposed to 4GB standard.

Nice Value
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great laptop for the price. Like that it has a backlit keyboard for a machine in this price range and am slowly getting used to Windows 8 - actually really liking the touchscreen. Battery life could be a little better (getting about 4-5 hours of use) but the I5 processor makes for quick work. Overall a nice machine for the money.

Q: QuestionHDD to SSD. Windows 8.1 reinstall.I have replaced the HDD with SSD on this laptop. I noticed there were 2 strip wires which are going above the Harddisk which I had to take out and then keep them after installing SSD. What are these strips for. Is there a possibility that Harddisk/computer can occasionally freeze because of not reinserting these 2 strips properly? Does this laptop have SATA 2 or SATA 3 interface? The new SSD sequential read and write speeds are around 250 MB/s. When I see the benchmarks shared in SSD review they were around 400-500 MB/s for the same. Is there any possibility that during replacement loose connection or improper connection is causing the slow speeds? Also the SSD started freezing just a few mins after turning on pc. I tried many methods suggested in google and it seemed to be resolved now. But my preference is to reinstall windows. How to reinstall windows 8.1? No DVD or backup drive provided in the system. Also the reinstall from windows settings doesn't work. I'm also not able to see/get the window 8.1 product key anywhere (I remember we used to have windows key as a sticker on earlier laptops). Thanks in Advance.
Asked by Ravi.
- A:Answer It is very unlikely the ribbon cables going to the daughter board would be the cause of the reported data rates you are seeing from your installed SSD as the cables only connect the HDMI, USB 2.0 and headphone/mic interface board to the main system board. They could probably be left disconnected for troubleshooting purposes. Benchmark software results vary widely from one program to another. I would suggest that you use a couple of different benchmarking tools to get a more accurate picture of your system. Take a look at ATTO Technologies Drive Benchmark and Crystal DiskMark. Both of these are very popular. Also run some hardware information utilities (such as Speccy from Piriform) to see how the system is reporting the SATA drive to the OS. I tested my system with a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview build 10079. A fresh install means no extra software running that can skew benchmark results, and ensures proper support by the operating system when installing onto an SSD.

Q: QuestionDoes it have SATA 2 or SATA 3?
Asked by Ravi.
- A:Answer Update to previous post: I installed a Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD in my system today. The SATA controller is definitely SATA rev. 3 (6Gb/s - 600 MB/s). Benchmarks show 500 - 550 MB/s on both read and write data transfer rates. Performance increase is close to 5 times the stock 5400 RPM SATA rev. 2 drive data rates. See attached images for details.

Q: Questionhow is the sound on the toshiba satellite14 touch screen
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer The sound is great. No booming bass (obviously it's a laptop) but has very clear treble that even I, a self proclaimed audiophile, find nice to listen to music while doing in the office or at home writing a paper. The bluetooth capability is also a nice touch for people who have a bluetooth enabled speaker system that they may want to listen to instead of the onboard sound.

Asked by CA Hiker.
- A:Answer No, replacing the HDD with a SSD does not void the limited warranty but the SSD drive you install is not covered by the laptop warranty.
