      Not System in the Specifications

First the memory is not the 2666 MHz it is the 2400 MHz memory. The screen is not Nvidia G-Sync enabled. Please be aware the Alienware auto update may install the wrong drivers making the system internet non-functional. Killer has one unified driver that works for both the wireless and wired devices in this system. Auto installation attempts to install two separate drivers which work against each other making the internet less than functional. The video drivers also can get messed up making text difficult to see. Please be aware of this when starting the new system. The system is big and solid. Others in this class did not feel as solid and many had a flimsy feel and deflection of the keypad and system itself. The touch pad was responsive and the feel of the keypad is excellent. I like the back lit keys but I do not see the reason for zone colors. If it is not RGB back lighting why bother. Check all the LED's colors under the keypad keys. I had several that had 2 of the three LEDs stuck on a florescent green color. Though it didn't show through to the key top it did bleed out the bottom of the keys and was distracting. You will need room for this system but if you watch the auto updates and check things carefully you should be fine. This system will NOT FIT in a standard 17" computer case. Its design is bigger than any 17" case I could find and even the Alienware cases for a 17.3" system do not confirm this system will fit. I am struggling with what case to get for it. Any input on this would be appreciated. The Best Buy price is better than configuring in on Dell? Dell states the system components are not the same? Slower Memory, not a G Sync Screen, they didn't go into any other details but G Sync is another $50, faster memory another $100+. With coupons and being on sale the savings was more than $400 and you could pick it up at Best Buy. The warranty is lack luster and I would recommend getting better than the 1 year included with this system. When I called in for assistance the Dell technician was reluctant to help because the warranty was the basic one! I am not sure if I would recommend this system but I do believe it has be better build than similar systems and decided on it for that reason alone. Good luck there are so many options out there it can be over whelming. I am only giving this 3 stars due to the auto update issues and hours of trouble shooting I had to do to get the system to work correctly. This should not occur!

      Smoking fast without severe overheating...

Besides being a beautiful beast, it is also a somewhat cooler beast according to forums...I hear about thermals in the 70's, CPU and GPU. After running it for at least six hours, I noticed some warming up while doing some DSP work on it and watching some you-tube. I have not used it extensively for gaming. I'm mainly using it as my audio processing desktop replacer and mixing, production and editing machine. It will also be used for video editing from my modulars synths channel. I like the form factor better than the lighter MSI in almost the same class. MSI just looked a bit flimsy, cork on the bottom ?! The MSI screen a bit bendable, something I'm afraid I might break, but not the Alienware which is built like a tank. I like the color scheme changer, the rear fed power adapter jack, but not the lack of a gradual fade-in/fade-out factor, unless I'm missing something. The lack of an SD Card is simply unacceptable in my opinion! I have an USB SD Card hub, but still an Dell oversight...What were thy thinking ? An extra USB 3.0 port or two would have made this even better. I love the keyboard and the crisp, almost glare proof display. Time will tell how the heavy construction build will play out. So far so good. It is gorgeous and flashing like TRON or X-mas Tree which ever you happen to prefer, yet still a bit warm after long periods of time moving towards the key-bed area where you might sense some gradual warmth, which is probably not something preferable for some users. It's a hit and miss loving it completely. I have a feeling the thermals will go up during an intensive game with overclocking turned on from the control center. I love it so far, its too new to give it 100% pure time-tested opinion, but it is what it is. A beast not to be reckoned with albeit an warmer beast than the competition...I still find it acceptable!

      Great Laptop good price

This laptop was on sale for $200, ($1699.00) ran to BESTBUY pronto. It's a great laptop, It had a 17.3 G-Sync 60 Htz FHD (1920 x 1080) G-Sync display, i7-8750H CPU, 16GB DDR4 (2666Htz memory/Ram), gtx1070 with 8 GB Vram, 256 SSD and a 1 TB Hard Drive. Great sturdy build. It plays all the new titles with room to spare. I purchased a Enhance Gaming Laptop Cooling Pad Stand with 5 Blue LED Cooler Fans ($24.99) to keep my laptop cool. Also, Alienware Vindicator Backpack 18-Inch (AWVBP18). Great backpack case! ($82.20). I got an ANKER 4 input USB 3.0 for adding ports for (Mouse, Game Pad, external drive or USB, monitor etc.. ($14.99) All three from Amazon. I didn't want to pay another $1300 Dollars just for a GTX1080 card and an i9 inlet processor. The GTX1070 is good enough for gaming and Virtual Reality. I ran the STEAM VR test and it reported that I had 3 X the minimum requirements for VR Gaming. I might eventually get a 27" external gaming monitor to accompany this beast or get a UHD TV I could plug into. Game on people game on. If you've have money for the gtx1080 graphics and an Intel i9 CPU you should order from the Alienware site and verify exactly what you're getting or work closely with your BESTBUY Agent.

      Terrible experience

I'm sure the laptop is great when it works.... Bought one I was pretty happy with it and on the first day I notice a dead pixel. No biggie, I exchange it. Try it again boom again deadpixel. Fine fine third time is a charm, I exchange again. Low and behold can't even plug it cos it won't fit the 6 sockets I tried to plug it in of one I was able to connect the previous two. Now I don't know if this unit is also faulty cos guess what it won't turn on without the initial plug in. I call customer support, I ask them if I can return again. They said you'll probably have to buy a plug.... Oh and by the way I spend 60 dollars going and coming to best buy to make sure no more damage was done to the returning or my current unit.... When I spend 2k on a laptop I want full working unit. If I wanted parts sold separately I'd make my own desktop. Props to the bestbuy guys working at the store for being understanding. But dead pixels is dead pixels. Can't say the same about bestbuys policies. Bestbuy I'm loving. By the way the connection between the cord and adapter is loose.

Hands Down Top of the Market Gaming Laptop

I have had many laptops in my time including from Asus Rogs to MSI Apaches. But this one definitely has came dressed to impress. I was iffy to go with a Alienware as I never wanted to support the endeavor but I was convinced by a friend to go down the rabbit home and I wont look back. Pros- Beautiful Display for being 60Hz. The tones are amazing and the G-Sync just makes everything pop. Sound is absolutely stunning and better than any laptop I have ever heard. Hands down beautiful when gaming or listening to music Design - Is flawless, its beautiful, seamless, and the keyboard feel is truly something to try out. The weight fo the laptop gets comfortable and its SOOOOOOOO quiet even when playing heavy games like Wolfenstien and Shadows of War. Cons- The battery life is still not on par with where batteries should be today but thats comes on course with the system being so powerful. If you are looking for a great laptop that is powerful, faster than most laptops on the marketl, and gets the job done on every aspect of life whether it be gaming or web design, this is the best laptop you will find and you have always wanted.

      Great Gaming Laptop !!

Initially I was somewhat reluctant about getting the Alienware 17 R5 vs getting its predecessor the R4, but reckoned after all that the upgraded specs ( incl. now GSYNC etc) are worth paying the higher pricel ( Still Got item pricematched and saved another 270.00$ of 1899.99 !) It is a gaming powerhouse, no doubt. I am impressed with how well it is built, how well it performs when playing games or doing other tasks and how relatively subtle the fan noise emission is. Even under load it is never overbearing or annoying as with other gaming laptops ( hissing or loud fan noise !). Thanks to the Nvidia GTX 1070 with its 8Gb VRAM and Vapor cooling , and the I7 8th Gen Proc, this machine can render all your games at max settings, while staying cool without breaking into a sweat. Overall I would recommend this item to anyone who is looking for a stylish (minimalist) looking yet sturdy built gaming laptop that acts also as a desktop replacement.

      So far so REALLY good

I research and research to the point of paralysis by analysis. After weighing all options, I finally picked up one of these bad boys and so glad I chose to do so. Here are the just straight up facts. 1) It's heavy and big, but it's built like a tank, so that tradeoff is worth it imo. Sturdy and reliable build wins out in my book. 2) This is definitively a 60hz 1080p IPS panel with G-sync. Can confirm because it's literally stated on the packaging of the product. 3) Versatile in that you can get the graphics amp and keep your graphics card updated with more and more demanding games in the present and the future. Also can alleviate potential overheating issues from the unit when utilizing the graphics amp. Very good way to relatively future proof and extend the viable life of the laptop. * I'm very happy with the purchase and I believe you will be too if you are looking for the same things as I did (stated above) when determining which laptop is right for you. Hopefully this helps and enjoy!

      Great Laptop for a gamer!

I have been gaming for as many years as I can remember, but it has always been on a desktop. I have had nice laptops, mostly for work, and I have tried gaming on those, but there was always something off about it. I figured, I was just not the laptop gamer type. So for years, I have not used a laptop to game, that is until I was bought this laptop as a gift, and boy was I completely wrong. I have begun gaming again, and now I am MOBILE! Well, almost:) This laptop weighs a ton. But surprisingly I am good with that. I do wish however that I had bought the laptop case for it, I thought my others would work, but nope (I have like 5 cases, all too small. LOL) But I can deal with that till I get one. Long story short, if you game, this is a GREAT buy. I have never been as happy with a laptop as I am with this. I would recommend this to everyone looking for a great laptop. The build quality is great, the options are killer, and lets face it, it is the best in the price range.
