    Synopsis

    Black Hawk Down
A quickly forgotten chapter in United States military history is relived in this harrowing war drama from director Ridley Scott, based on a series of Philadelphia Inquirer articles and subsequent book by reporter Mark Bowden. On October 3rd, 1993, an elite team of more than 100 Delta Force soldiers and Army Rangers, part of a larger United Nations peacekeeping force, are dropped into civil war-torn Mogadishu, Somalia, in an effort to kidnap two of local crime lord Mohamed Farah Aidid's top lieutenants. Among the team: Staff Sgt. Matt Eversmann (Josh Hartnett), Ranger Lt. Col. Danny McKnight (Tom Sizemore), the resourceful Delta Sgt. First Class Jeff Sanderson (William Fichtner), and Ranger Spec. Grimes (Ewan McGregor), a desk-bound clerk getting his first taste of live combat. When two of the mission's Black Hawk helicopters are shot down by enemy forces, the Americans -- committed to recovering every man, dead or alive -- stay in the area too long and are quickly surrounded. The ensuing firefight is a merciless 15-hour ordeal and the longest ground battle involving American soldiers since the Vietnam War. In the end, 70 soldiers are injured and 18 are dead, along with hundreds of Somalians. Black Hawk Down was voted one of the top ten films of the year by the National Board of Review prior to its limited Oscar-qualifying release. On the basis of his work in this film, co-star Eric Bana, a relatively unknown Australian actor playing Delta Sgt. First Class "Hoot" Gibson, won the lead in director Ang Lee's version of The Hulk (2003). ~ Karl Williams, Rovi

      VERY GOOD MOVIE

I am Shootergamerguy and yes I have played many shooter videogames and watched many military movies. I am posotively sure that you have read some of my reviews, and if you havent then my experience with playing those games and watching these movies is the only reason why I write these reviews. Black Hawk Down is a great movie that features a compeling true story about 18 or 19 U.S. Rangers and Delta Force soldiers lost their lives in the battle of Mogadishu or "Black Hawk Down". This movie is definetly one of my favorites that I have watched over and over again. I would reccomend this movie to you because of the good action and acting involved in this beloved film. If you want a good movie to watch on Saturday night, I would pick theis movie up as soon as possibile. until next time, Shootergamerguy check out my other reviews including Delta Force Black Hawk Down for the Playstation 2 Computer Enertainment System!!!!

      Blu-Ray version is fairly mediocre

This was one of the early Blu-Ray releases. Since then, optimizations to visual quality have been made (new codecs and such) to newer Blu-Ray titles. The Dark Knight is one of the more eye popping Blu-Ray's I own that I feel justifies owning a Blu-Ray player. Black Hawk Down on the other hand, is not. There's too much yellow shine in many of the scenes and film grain is literally everywhere on the screen for the entirety of the movie. Compared to the DVD version (which my dad owns), I honestly prefer it over the Blu-Ray version (and I only paid $4 for this on clearance). That being said, the sound quality is excellent and would be one of the few redeeming qualities of this version (though the DVD wasn't too far behind).

While I would argue that almost any movie from any period of time benefits from high resolution, no one is going to argue that certain film genres excel with greater visual fidelity and auditory punch. War movies are certainly among those. Riddley Scott's Black Hawk Down is a fantastic contemporary war film that touches on an oft forgotten military engagement--The Battle of Mogadishu. Possibly the second best war film to be released in the past 15 years (I would say Letters from Iwo Jima is the best...) Black Hawk Down is a must see for action fans. If you already own the 3 disc DVD you may not want to get rid of it though, since not all of the special features make it onto this Blu Ray.

3-Disc Film School in a Box

      Bassett

Film School in a Box in that this 3 disc version has a massive amount of background information, and many commentaries that provide film students with critical perspective on how or why decisions were made in the production of this film. Notable for the historical documentary information on Disc 3 that, if you are an aspiring filmmaker, allows you to see both the research and historical perspectives that influenced Ridley Scott as a Director. Scott's commentaries, on all his films, are always artistically detailed and inspiring, although sometimes lacking in storytelling originality.

The true story of a black hawk helicopter that gets shot down over Mogadishu during a civil unrest in 1993 involving the U.S. and rebels in Africa.. An aid situation gone wrong for the U.S.. A major incident unfolds and a bunch of units go to grab everyone left behind for rescue.. Gripping action, and characters. A policing the world issue is shown and makes you wonder it could of been a lot worse...

Black Hawk Down is one of the best war movies I have ever had the pleasure of watching. This forgotten, or less known, story of the American raid of Somalia in 1993 is finally brought to light in this movie. There is a bunch of action (maybe too much for those who aren't big fans of war movies), a good storyline, and good actors to go along with it. I own this movie on bluray and the quality and sound are fantastic - and so are the extra features. If you love war movies, you are sure to love this one.

      The Best of the Best

This is the best movie i have seen in a long time. There are a lot of great moments, with great visuals, great sound, and absolutely great story. It is 2 and a half hours and i wish it could be longer. It makes it a millions times a better if you have surround sound because you would be a able to hear bullets and rockets fly by you and you will feel like you are in the movie. I bet you a million bucks you will love it, and if you don't something is wrong with you (JK). Buy it, trust me.

This movie remains the gold standard of realistic combat films. The music, cinematography, immersion, pacing/structure, and overall feel of the movie is superb. Actual special forces soldiers advised and played extras in this film. This movie does not have much drama but focus primarily on realistic portrayal of a real battle, and does it better than any movie I've seen.
