A: I don't not consider it smudge proof.
A: I haven't seen any rust form on mine and the spots wipe right off with just a wet rag have not used any stainless steel cleaner yet

A: Yes a little but not bad enough I have to wipe everyday. They are faint and mostly if your fingers are damp or dirty. Easily wipes up. I love the refrigerator and would buy again if I had to do over again.
