Questions & Answers (36)
- A: Have not used these other routers. But I can say with confidence that this router has the best performance and coverage of any router that I have had before including the AC 3200. Our house is 3400 square feet and spread out. This router reaches every corner with mo difficulty. We have at least 20 devices connected to it concurrently including various streaming devices and heavily used laptops, desktops and smart phone. No lags or performance issues so far.
- A: That's because there are no 802.11ax nics/wifi cards yet. The standard is still in draft form and will not be ratified until early 2019. Netgear is expected to issue a firmware update once the spec has been ratified.
Q: Do you need a separate modem with this router when service is provided by Comcast (5 answers)
A: Yes you would need separate modem with nighthawk ax8- A: The AC 2200 advertises 2.2 Gbps while the X8 supports up to 1.9Gbps. Will that 300 Mbps fix it or is it a difference in the cores or other details? The X8 is a dual core compared with the Quad Core. Yes, faster dual cores, but the AC2200 having 4 cores should be dedicating a core for traffic cop vs. shared core, etc. The X8 being a few years old, though with similar tech may be lagging in some areas of advertised compatibility. Since you have so much traffic going on and the variety of frequencies with the Ethernet, to really push the router I would try a VELOP with the AC2200. Especially the 2 cameras at 5Ghz. If they are located anywhere outside the room the router is at, the 5Ghz struggles behind a couple walls. If you can get a VELOP node close to them, that should offer dividends to get you past your lag. Yeah, cost of the Router plus VELOP - AC1300. You can only take it into consideration if the pain to stay the same is greater than the pain to change and possibly fix the lag. There is not guaranteeing or telling with any of these configurations and your specific setup.. Depending what type of cameras, their specific chipsets and how they integrate with the mesh. Ideally everything would be on one proven platform with compatible and tweaked hardware to integrate with the specific appliance. It's still a mish-mash for small business with this tech. I us IP cameras wireless and wired and there are a huge difference in all of them for advertised and actual throughput and performance. They all say one thing and do another. I would hate to say, but you really have to just try it out and if you don't like it, take it back. But that is almost what you have to do in this case. There is just no way unless you run into another user who has run an X8 with very similar setup to what you have and has tried the AC2200. ....Good Luck!
- A: Yes there are 2 screwheads to be able to mount to a wall (pic provided) I dont think the positioning of the fixed antennas will compromise the usefulness. May look wierd but this router does look like a spaceship straight out of Star Wars.
Q: What is the total height with the antenna attached?? (5 answers)
A: 6 inches tall. 10.5 inches wide at the widest.Q: Nighthawk AX6000 AX8, recommended 5 port switch. (4 answers)
A: I did see a huge improvement. With 11 different Echo Show Alexa devices 4 plugs, 2 lights, 2 TVs, 1 XBOX X, 2 Audio Recivers, 1 door bell with 2 ringers, 1 garage door opener, 1 door opener, 2 tablets, 2 phones, 4 TV streaming boxes. Over using the Spectrum Router
