Better w/firmware upgrades (v3.2.15.25_1.3.15)

Quality4 out of 5Value3 out of 5Ease of Use4 out of 5Pros mentioned:App, Set up, Signal qualityCons mentioned:Features, NetworkYeah. It is pricey. The _bleeding edge_ always is. Yeah. You might have firmware issues on newer systems. The _bleeding edge_ usually does. Upgrade the firmware when you install it. Yeah. It might not have all of the features of other models. The _bleeding edge_ often lacks features initially... (This review is for an Orbi AX6000 2 pack ---I mention this because I have noticed that sometimes on other sites, reviews might be used on similar but not exactly the same systems) Wifi seems to work great except I have a PS4 that drops wifi regularly. I think it is a PS4 problem though. Will see if the firmware they just released fixes that.... Distance coverage seems to be better than my previous Orbi mesh system (I only need 1 satellite instead of 2 to cover everywhere in my ~4000 sq ft. home). "Back-haul" ethernet function seems to work well also (I am using a physical ethernet cable between the Router and the satellite to connect the two pieces together---I believe that this is a more stable way to set it up as opposed to using wireless to connect the two wireless devices together). Today they released a firmware update (couldn't find it on their website but I found it in the Orbi IOS app --I included the version of firmware I am on in the summary). This new firmware added Netgear Armor protection capability which is awesome! To explain, basically it is a Netgear bundled unlimited device (under a fair use stipulation) Bitdefender "total security" product managed through the Orbi IOS App. I had only 2 months on my existing subscription with Bitdefender remaining so I transitioned to using Netgear Armor. Bundling Bitdefender with the Netgear router has distinctive advantages for me (i.e. protects against IoT device threats, network scanning). Netgear had a discount so I bought 4 (qty) 1 year subscriptions for $179 (note: I had to activate the 4 activation codes separately and "replace" the existing subscription & now my subscription ends in 1460 days) which to me isn't a bad deal for a well-reviewed feature-rich unlimited host Anti-virus/Intrusion Prevention/UTM solution @ $45 per year. Waiting to see IF they also add Disney Circle support (content filtering --- which is supported in other Orbi systems but not in this one...yet) in a future firmware upgrade. Hope this was helpful. Sorry if it sounded like an advertisement. I don't have any affiliation with Netgear/Bitdefender/Disney etc. I am just an end user with a background in Networking/InfoSec...so I love this stuff!

Quality4 out of 5Value2 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Just installed Orbi RBK852 in approx 3k sq Fr house. Works with all devices except laptops. I was told by Orbi Netgear support to turn off the AX functionality for the 2.4 and 5.0 via orbilogin.net. Apparantly, this new AX technology is not compatible with many windows and Mac based systems... in my case a Dell Inspiron 13 7000 series. Supposedly they are working on a firm ware update but no ETA. In the meantime I paid $750 with tax for this router and can’t even use its full functionality. Thus only a 3.5 to 4 stars... not 5 until that fixes the issue!

Quality5 out of 5Value3 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5I wanted to add a mesh network to my home. I have 1 gig cable internet coming into my home. However, the routers and the wifi network never let me get close to that speed. I purchased the NETGEAR - Orbi AX6000 Tri-band Mesh WiFi 6 System and had the new network up and running in about 10 minutes after downloading the app for my iPhone. I didnt even have to disconnect the current apple extreme router network in place. I just add the new router and placed the satellite and had signal throughout the house. Standing 5 feet from the router I was getting 700-750 mbs on my iPhone. Going upstairs to the farthest corner of the house through multiple closed doors I still was getting 300-400 mbs. I placed the satellite in my home office so it is close enough that I can use an Ethernet Cable to my laptop docking station (Dell XPS13 2019). Using WiFi at my desk from satellite I was getting 600-700 mbps, using Cat7 Ethernet cable directly from satellite 875 mbps. Very happy with purchase.

Switched from EERO pros - do not regret
|Posted .Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5I have been an EERO user for years. In my house I needed do it eero pros to cover all three stories. I have spectrum cable internet rated at 400/20 - at the main gateway I got about that wired. However, as I spread the eero pros throughout the house I would only get 1/2-1/4 of those speeds and in network speeds were nowhere near what I would expect from this high end of a setup. Finally, over the past six months I was getting drops and restarts constantly. I decided to bite the bullet and pick up the Orbi WiFi 6 units. I could not be more impressed, two units cover my entire house and expand out around the property even giving my coverage at the street and to my backyard (I am at about 1/4 acre). What’s most impressive isn’t the range, it’s that the Orbi maintains speed far farther than the eero ever did and this is across 2.4 and 5gHz bands. I have a number of 2.4 smart home devices and the Orbi handles them like a champ. This is my first bestbuy review and it is for a very deserving product. I highly recommend.

Best mesh router ever
|Posted .Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5This is my router on the other of my house 2500 feet from my Apple TV using the speed test app. This is by far the best mesh router as of 2019-2020 and thank you Netgear team. I have try several other mesh but hat down on this one. After testing for a month. I don’t like to post review but this one here needs to let people knows if you are looking for the best to stream and play online game without lack . Don’t be afraid to spend a little bit more for quality, the only lack this has it is lack of feature like the eero. I love the eero until they release their latest update keep disconnecting the mesh apart every 4hrs, it is frustrating, I rather pay extra for quality then being on the phone every 4hours because I am disconnecting from my router and take 20-25min until I am connecting again. Orbi WiFi 6 needs you to be a little technical and understanding networking to get inside the router and setup your vpn .. it is very east if you know what you are doing. This is an excellent router and I don’t know why there is bad review on this router. This router should be all 5 stars on my book

Q: QuestionWhat is the difference between the Ax6000 and the AX4200 WiFi 6 mesh system
Asked by Techchallenged.
- A:Answer Sorry this will be kinda long but im giving you everything I researched when I bought the AX6000 The difference is the ability to future proof your home with the AX6000 as it can attain gigabit internet speeds(if your internet service provider(ISP) offers that). For the AX6000 you can get (1000 Mbs 2.4 GHz + 2400 Mbs 5 GHz) compared to (600 Mbs 2.4 GHz + 1200 Mbs 5 GHz) Also the you number of ethernet connections you get with the AX6000 is higher by like 3 more ports 1 extra on the router and 2 more on the satellites. Check your current ISP package if they offer gigabit internet (realistically its 940 mb/s) you’ll want to use what you’re paying for and if you have alot of people in your household go with the AX 6000 because your speed will suffer if you are all on at one time. If you dont have Gigabit internet with your ISP save the $200+ (i say ‘+‘ because usually you will have to upgrade your modem to a docsis 3.1 to get gigabit internet) and get the AX4200 Lastly If you dont have alot of people in your house and you are just looking to just eliminate dead zones in your house maybe even look up nighthawk mesh system(I believe its less than $200). Its the cheapest wifi 6 mesh system it doesnt provide the fastest speeds but will get you better mire reliable connection throughout since its a mesh.

Q: QuestionWhen will you be able to buy an additional satellite extender for the Netgear Orbi WiFi 6 System AX6000 (RBK852)
Asked by WiFi6.
- A:Answer Netgear put out a video recently about their new products and mentioned that the additional satellites will be available in a few weeks. So, I would imagine sometime around the February timeframe next year.

Q: QuestionWhat modem would work best with the AX6000 system?
Asked by Paul.
- A:Answer You will want a modem that is Docsis 3.1 certified to handle faster speeds. I would probably go with the Netgear CM1100 or the CM1200 which would be more than enough to handle the new orbi 6.

Q: QuestionWill it work with a Verizon Fios router? Is it an add on or a replacement for the router Verizon supplied?
