A box pops up where you click on the internet icon. Choose network you want to connect to and enter the password for that network. You are then connected!

The Microsoft Office apps do not work on Chromebooks (this isn't because it can't run it but because Google wants you to use their Office suite with Docs/Sheets/Slides instead on their device) but they can be run as WebApps and these actually work really well as long as you have a decent internet connection.
