Yes, there’s a button on top that turns off the microphones. The button will turn red, and the indicator bar at the bottom of the screen will turn red to show that the microphones are off.

The microphone can be turned off with a button on the top, the screen shows a red line at the bottom confirming that the microphone is off, along with a red light on the button, making it easy to ensure the microphone is off from across the room

Since Echo is a "Voice" controlled system, disabling the Microphone would completely defeat the purpose of the Echo.
There is a statistically better chance that your smart phone is spying on you.
