It depends on the DirectTV app permissions. On another provider (Charter Spectrum) I was given a "Sorry External Display is not supported with this Application.

I use it to watch Netflix from my iPhone 6 without any problems. It shows up on the tv exactly as you see it on your phone, home screen, app icons, everything. What you see on your phone appears on the screen.

Yes, it does allow from iphone 5, iphone 6, ipad or any mobile device.

You should be able to. If you can view it on your phone, you'll see it on your television.

I watch the Netflix, Hulu, and HBO Go apps on my television just by connecting the adapter to my phone. The picture is so good you would think you're streaming the movies and shows direct from your television.
