All of the media (audio and video) are sent thru the HDMI port. You would have to run an aux cable out from the projector to your speaker. That's how I do mine and it works great.

I connect it to my tv and I don’t need one. It works with just the adapter and the hdmi cable.

If your projector accepts an HDMI input that will transmit both video and audio.
