That’s a neat question. I’m not sure about the iPads with lightning ports, the only iPad I have uses USB-C. If the iPads with lightning ports work with this, you shouldn’t have an issue.
 I did test this idea with an iPhone XS Max and iPhone 11 Pro Max.. You can see and hear everything coming from both ends. It basically mirrors the phone.

Yes works perfect make sure you have a HDMI cord long enough to reach your tv and set the tv to the correct HDMI port.
