That is do to the hulu app I have not found away to make it work with hulu

This is a restriction that some subscription apps have that do not allow the media to be redirected to the port. It happens on some of mine too,

I'm not positive this is your issue, but I found this on the Apple Discussion forums regarding Netflix using this setup:

"The Netflix phone associate I spoke to said Apple enforced DRM in IOS 11, so you can no longer use your TV with an HDMI cable. Apple is robbing from the poor to give to the rich. Apple wants you to use Apple TV to play the videos. This is nonsense."
"This is an egregious crime against the user, who only wants to mirror their small IOS screen on a larger screen."

I had the same problem. I unplugged it from the iPhone/iPad and plug it back in and that did the trick.

I have an iPhone 6s and it doesn’t give me a problem with Hulu or Netflix.
