You can purchase Microsoft Word for Apple. When purchasing on-line with Microsoft, checkout the free Microsoft Office suite for teacher/students. Also, you can use Google.docs with this laptop. My kids use Google.docs with their Macbooks with no problem. Virus protection is always recommended. I think you get a few months, or possibly even a year for free when you purchase a Macbook.
