A:Answer The MacBook Air DOES have a full-size SD card reader (which will also read microSD cards provided you have an adapter, which many microSD cards come with). You are correct in that it does not come with an optical (DVD) drive. Most laptops these days have phased out optical drives in favor of being thinner and lighter, and these drives are generally only found on entry-level machines, or really high-end but bulky laptops. None of Apple's laptops offer a built-in optical drive, but if it's really that important to you, you can buy an external DVD drive.
As far as if this will cause any problems or lead to any inconveniences, probably not. Your daughter won't be able to watch DVDs on this Mac out-of-the-box, but will be able to use the SD card reader (such as if transferring photos from a camera). Most software these days is downloaded from the internet, so not having a DVD drive shouldn't be an issue there. I'd recommend using a USB flash drive for external storage anyway, and this laptop does have 2 regular USB ports.
