I would go to your nearest Best Buy store and look at both computers in person but the the differences are the Pro has a better screen then the Air. Also the Pro model comes with a Touch Bar on the keyboard pad, I wanna say the trackpad is little bigger then the Air, The Air has the Megsafe charging, 2 USB ports, 1 USB-C port, SD card reader, where the Pro model only has 2 USB-C ports. My suggestion is if you just use it for email and surfing definitely save you bucks and get the Air model. But first go and check them out in person to see which one is right for you. Good Luck...

With the lower models you will get a better screen and possibly a better processor depending on which one you buy. Based on your use, the MacBook Air should suit your needs perfectly.
