This cable is designed to connect the old hard drive in the computer to the new hard drive. I used "Super Duper" free cloning software (there are several packages available).
I would strongly encourage you to view several YouTube regarding the the cloning and exchange process for hard drives. It will help!

The process to clone your drive is not intuitive, however, this cable connection makes it as simple as it gets. I suggest you go to YouTube.com and search for videos that provide you with a "show and tell" opportunity showing you the step by step process. Also, there are free software downloads (for example: Super Duper and Carbon Copy) that are very helpful.
