Better take the hard drive out of the broken machine. You can copy files or clone the disk depending on your needs
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I don’t think so unless you use a separate power source for the drive there’s not enough power coming out of the USB to run the drive itself and the data transfers. At least that has been my experience.

But the Cable can plug into any damaged drive, and you may or may not read the files, If you can read files on Crashed Hd ,then copy them over one at a time , or in bunches. This device is designed to copy exactly one drive to be like another, This does format the New Hd and then copies sector by sector. -------- By Not Using the Software, You might read files on crashed HD or you cant - I dont know what part crashed. This device purpose is to copy any SATA HD and make a Clone to it .. I do this and Put one of the HD's safely away, So if the HD crashes, I swap them and the computer is running again. For you, The Cable is the Most Valuable part - It allows any SATA HD to be treated as an external Hard Drive .... But does not guarantee that in your case, The crashed drive can be read at all. If the logic circuit has failed on the damaged drive, only a professional can take it apart and swap the internal parts. -- Others will ask ... Where is your backup files ? Mine are on an External HD & Flash Drives & burned on a CD
