Theoretically you could clone a PATA drive. But make sure you have a USB port on the machine. And keep in mind that you are cloning to a SATA drive and if your machine does not support SATA it will not work in that machine.

I am able to clone from ISCSI targets from my nas server to a sata drive or SSD without issue. If your pata hdd has bad sectors be aware this can take a SUPER LONG TIME for clone to be done. Also consider the following issues, If you are cloning your Operating system from Pata to sata, your OS may not function on the Sata drive due to bios settings, if your changing from IDE to Achi mode. You may have to run your Sata in IDE mode in order for OS to work. Which could show no improvements in drive speed because its set to run IDE mode specs.
