It was not 'Fixed' on the version I had... I saw that review too, 'go bright for white', and yep I suppose it could be brighter. And the contrast is uneven, some of the keys were brighter than others, but none of that bothered me frankly. Lit keyboards look cool, not sure they ever helped me except to orientate my hands and this one does that fine. You won't find the perfect machine, I love this machine for all the other reasons.
