If you are talking about a gas generator then it's not advisable. Unless you're generator has a DC out option that you'll be connecting to. But even then, it has AC outlets for a reason. If you're thinking of "stacking" the two, i.e. generator output is 5,000 watts and inverter is 2,500 watts with the hopes of getting 7,500 watts then DO NOT DO THIS!!! Power does not work like that.

We do not recommend connecting the power inverter DC input terminals to the 120VAC output of a generator set for the reason that it's very dangerous, could damage the power inverter and generator.
