• Personally mine is against the wall near a corner with a straight unobstructed field of view so that it can find its way back easily. I like to leave about two feet on either side.

• The docking station needs about a yard (or meter) of space on each side and 2 on the front end. It can work with a little less room, but if it is too cramped it will have trouble docking. It also helps to wipe the front sensor panel on the vac before starting it. If that panel gets too dusty, it will get "lost" trying to dock.

• For optimal performance, the charging dock should be placed against a wall with three (3) feet of space on both sides, and six (6) feet of space in front clear of any objects.
