“I have kitchen/living room area with a carpet in the living room. What is the best way to avoid the mopping function on my carpet. Is there a way to separate the area so the ecovacs mops only the kitchen area? Can the ecovacs do only vacuum function?”

Hi, Deebot U2 could vacuum and mop. If you don't want the Deebot mop, you could remove the mopping plate and empty the water tank, then the Deebot will be back the vacuum mode. Please kindly note that Deebot U2 doesn't have the carpet detector and it doesn't have the map function. So it could not avoid the carpet automatically. And it could not edit the map area. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.You can detach the mop if you don't want the mopping function for the carpet. The robot will detect the mop is there or not. It can definitely do vacuum only (default). You can also use magnetic strip to surround an area that you don't want mop in mopping mode (magnetic strip not included )or just put a barrier to stop the robot entering the kitchen.
