Yes it can work but the signal at the 5.4 GHz does not travel well so you will need either EEro pro units or eero beacons Placed in many areas to get complete coverage, it does automatically switch to 2.4 GHz but you lose speed

Its what you would design if you started from scratch vs starting from trying to improve a single point router. Stucco/concrete/brick are among the toughest home materials for Wifi to pass through. So as you install your new mesh system, think about that. For example, if you want wifi to extend onto your back patio/yard, place one of the mesh units where it "sees" the back yard through an easy material like glass (vs stucco). Likewise, place them in your home so they can easily communicate (mesh) with each other. A mesh network would include the "router" function, so you would only need a Comcast compatible modem. If the Arris gateway modem/router is more than a few years old, you should consider replacing it anyway. I'm a HUGE fan of Eero Pro mesh network products...
