It's designed to be mounted to the windshield and you can actually purchase a wire hiding kit which is awesome! No dangling cords hanging from the windshield as its all wired through the headliner but you can purchase after market mounts that mount to the dash I'm sure. Just an assumption though... The higher it's mounted, the better visibility and range it has.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It does not have to be mounted on the windshield. However, if you just set it on your dash, you will not get as much range.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I would say, yes.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No. It can actually rest on the dashboard or it can be mounted to your rear view mirror if you purchase the kit separately
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No, it has to be mounted where the radar/laser energy can get to it. Most often it ends up being the windshield. I had one car with a uv coating in the windshield that happened to block radar. That detector had to sit in one particular spot to see through a "hole" in the coating and had its rear view blocked so it only saw a little from the front. Some tints do the same thing. It could be mounted in the front bumper, though I'm not sure exactly how far the Bluetooth goes and it's not really designed for outside.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It does not have to be mounted on a windshield. There are several dashboard mounts that work okay.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It has to be mounted on the windshield.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.According to the manual it is the most effective when positioned in the center of the dashboard and low on the windshield. I have seen people mount them to their sun visors and still have it work but I wouldn't doubt the recommendation of the manual.
