“If the batteries are not replaceable and obviously have only a limited amount of life and ability to be recharged, won't this system be useless after that and of no use any longer?”

Those batteries will practically outlast the camera Lithium ion batt are good to recharge hundreds and hundreds of time You'll need to charge these batteries about 2 to 4 to 6 times a year depends on the activities you get on them So that being said I wouldn't worry about the battery life......

But modern batteries will last for years before the battery completely is dead. Chances are you'll either upgrade your system or something else on the camera would wear out before the battery does. Additionally, you'd be able to replace the camera and still add to the homebase.
