• It is free standing and needs a few inches of space to allow the air to move. It uses a quiet compressor. We like it.

• Yes the wine cooler is free standing. I've only had it a month but it is holding the two temperatures fine. My only complaint is that it make a strange sound when it is running the compressor. To compare the sound to something I'd say it sounds like a few pigeons. It's not loud enough to be noticeable unless the house is dead quite then I notice it.
