“I have just installed this on my bmw. Both my cigarette lighter plugs have power continuously running through them even when the car is turned off. I only have a USB that powers off with the vehicle. Will it provide sufficient power for the unit?”

USB power should not be enough to power the unit. Must use the 12v cord supplied. Don't worry about the cam staying on. It draws very little 12v power...or, just unplug the cord.
