“Is it ready to use when purchased or do I have to buy extras”

Everything was included accept a stand for the dash board.

It is ready to use, right out of the box :) I did have to update the maps to handle the changes in exit numbers on Massachusettes highways (not sure where you are from) but otherwise, this is a great GPS and easy to use! :)
