It goes down the drain pipe based on what I can tell, which hasn't been a problem, but there is sort of a small trap that does need to be checked after every few washes. This requires a small container nearby to collect water that needs to be emptied out of a small hose. Usually less than a quart or so. Whenever I check it, there's only ever a few loose threads or bits of fabric.

Lint and dog hair will be flushed from the unit through the drain line. We do recommend cleaning the drain pump filter on a regular basis to prevent build up and allow the unit to drain efficiently. The flow of air takes the lint to a zone that is not accessible, but the buildup is flushed away during the rinse cycle of the next wash. Stay safe and keep in touch! - John@GEA
