Does the washer have to sit on a pedestal to work? null

No. It can be mounted on a matching pedestal or it can be placed on the floor.

No it does not. I have mine on the floor and it works fine. The installers adjusted the legs so that it is level. The only reason for the pedestal is so that you don't have to bend over very far. I'm short, so I don't have a problem.
